Need install advice: Rear link & shock skids

I haven't installed my rear link skids (Total Chaos), nor rear shock skids (Rocktek), but am not sure of the procedure. For the shock skids, it seems straightforward: remove lower bolt, place skid, replace bolt. Will the shock stay in place when the bolt is removed?

Is it the same for the rear link? Do I need to hold it in place with a ratchet strap?

Any help would be appreciated.

I've never installed one, but I can tell you from my experience with the rear shocks that they should stay in place when you remove the lower mounting bolt.

I don't know about the lower links.

Cool thanks, Zak. I've seen pics of guys replacing the rear links & seems I should support it with a ratchet strap to the frame, but otherwise also pretty easy.

No problem! I don't really understand why - don't the driveshaft and diff and trac bar hold the axle in place?

Maybe I'm thinking it'd keep the lower link in place to make it easier to put it back in place....

yeah true, and i guess there could be some movement since the fulcrum (diff) is in the center. Couldn't hurt to tie it up to the frame.

You can prob use a socket extension and tap out the bolt for both and it will stay in place. And then tap the bolt back in.

I guess you're not removing the LL right? that should totally work, in theory. Maybe throw a jackstand under it so that it doesn't drop out of the hole.

I was rethinking my idea won't work. The skids won't slide in because of the extension. Sorry been long 24 hour shift. Your best bet is prob with ratchets to keep it in place. Where in sac are you? I can lend a hand if you want.

You won't need to leave the extension it if you use a jackstand to support it!

Not sure if you have done this yet. But, for entertainment purposes,

You might want to use a come along, there is a lot of shifting tork. Besides I don't think the bolt will come out without doing this to remove the force that is pushing on it.

Just pulled one of mine out.

I still vote jack stand... knock out mounting bolt, leave other end attached, it shouldn't move. Any reason why that won't work?
