Need less bounce.

So I got the rear coils replaced at a local shop. It's Moogs stock coils. Felt less bouncier than before I replaced it. I guess it was really the coils since it looked like I got a lift after the new install. But I guess that's the stock height

how much does your rear bounce now? you mentioned 2x in your first post.

After like 6 months, I actually got it upgraded to the OME (Old Man Emu) 906's in the rear, and just replaced the front springs with OEMs and it seems to handle bumps/holes a lot better to me

I read alot about OME, but I don't plan to tow. this is a daily driver car. Just replaced rear shocks with OEM. and it bounces as if I dont have any shocks. Kinda like your 2x thing you were saying in your first post. I'm wondering if that went away when you changed your springs. I'm looking for stock performance.

just changed front struts, and it feels totally solid in the front. just rear has a small clunk and bouncing like crazy.

This only thread I found that matches similar symptoms. hoping the solution fixed it.

So hoping went you swapped springs it fixed the bounciness. as you described. I rather not swap out the springs if i don't have too... but at this point the amount of time I spent thinking about it might as well have... moog springs are like 40 bucks.

Don't make the same mistake I did by going stock coils on the rears, I feel like it didn't make a difference. 906s are good and I didn't mind the lift

I don't remember the car being this bouncy when we first got it so something is seriously wrong.

It doesn't ride funny, the rear was just a tiny bit higher than the front, but I have a bunch of stuff in the cargo so it's not noticeable. And it'll level out in a few months anyways.

2) My stock shocks were shot, it wasn't replaced at all for 160k miles. Replacing it with Bilstein Hd 4600's made it so I feel the dips/bumps less and the thump sound is less. I felt more bounce though so that led me to change out the springs too and then it was back to normal.

Trust me, at first I didn't want any kind of lift just cuz I was afraid it might fk up something but this OME springs isn't as bad as you think because our 4runner tends to have rear sag anyways

The OME 906 is not really a 2" lift. Here is my 2002 with stock front struts/rear shocks and the OME 906 springs in the rear. A perfect amount of rake in my opinion, and very nice when I tow my trailer, as it levels out.

Shocks absorb impact from sudden jars and allow the axle to travel up/down quickly. The coils are what actually supports the weight of the vehicle though. Over time both shocks and coils loose their ability to rebound as firmly, making the ride rough where you feel every bump (bad shocks) and bouncy (bad coils).

Usually you replace all components. If your coils are no good and you put brand new shocks, they are going to take a beating and fail much sooner than they should. Plus a shot suspension will ruin your tires quick.

If you want a stock ride, why not replace with stock parts? It's $170 for both coils from Toyota of Dallas and only $60 for both shocks for a brand new Toyota rear suspension. The front is significantly more expensive though.

Yeah, it's true., it gets expensive fast. Search "Moog coils" or "Moog springs" on the forums here and read up the responses. I've seen a few positive and a few negative reviews on here.
