Need to unplug Downhill Assist Control

I want to know if it is possible to unplug or turn off the Downhill Assist Control. My wife and I purchased a 2006 4Runner SR5 4WD and the button for the DAC is on the center console.

It wasn't a problem for me, but when my wife drives the car she always takes the dog with her and the dog is stepping on the button constantly !!


Can I pull the fuse for the DAC?? We live in Los Angeles, so I don't even plan on using it.

I don't have a manual for the car, but was just hoping I might be able to pull a fuse on this feature without affecting anything else. Does anyone have any info. on this??

It will only actually ingage in low and 4low so probably no big deal if light on. I would pull the switch and try unpluging if you want to disable from switch.

yes, I believe you can just unplug the button from inside the console cover. I had to do this when I took apart my dash for a XM tuner install.

Ha! My dog does this exact same thing. Bad spot for this button. My hypothesis is that they didn't want to put it next to the diff lock button on the dash in the off chance that someone would make a mistake/misunderstand which button was which, and activate the diff lock on dry pavement.

I am relocating my Downhill Assist Control button to the right of the diff lock button. Looks like the hardest part will be running the wires since I don't want to cut the harness... I just need to order/harvest some terminals to plug in to the old harness.

As others said it's easy to unplug if you want. I've also heard of a couple people relocating the switch to the panel to the left of the steering wheel. It should just involve running some cable over there from where it's currently located.

That is kinda difficult because the wiring harness is all taped together. Also I don't know how long that lead actually is. I'm sure Toyota designed the wiring harness to save as much material as possible. It's worth looking into, but I'm not sure it's feasible from the factors I'm considering.

Just pop the center shifter console off, then unplug the switch.

But honestly, DAC will not engage unless the following criteria are met:

-Vehicle is in 4Lo
-Vehicle is in Gear 1
-Vehicle is traveling less than 10mph.

It'll just blink and not do anything, but blinking lights can be annoying.
