New 3rd Gen Owner, already have questions!

Hello All,

I just purchased a 2002 Sport Edition from HaloArchive on this forum. It is a very well-maintained and well-documented 4Runner. For me, the rust-free aspect was far more important than the mileage. I have been looking for a 3rd Gen for a while now. Everything around here (Northwestern PA) that I had found had far too much rust. When I found the post from HaloArchive selling his, I jumped on it. About 270k on the clock. Zero rust, and not a single leak. There are a couple things I have questions about.

First, is is this a disconnected vacuum line? Or is there nothing that actually goes here? Ive tried finding the answer, no luck so far. Pics attached.

i dont remember because i have a supercharger and cant go look at the lines. But i think they are for the 4wd actuator .

I've got a 2002 and can give you an answer tomorrow sometime on those lines.

They metal line on top of the intake is not used. Its for an EGR in other models toyo used this intake on. I think the other black plugged item is also. :cowboy:

Thanks for all the help. It seemed counterintuitive to assume that they would have left something on the intake manifold that didn't actually do anything, but it appears as though that is the case!

Definitely NOT EGR--it's in use on my '99. EGRs were only on non-OBDII 5VZ-FEs and those were all pre-1996, so no 3rd gens. Basically T100s 1995 and earlier. The little plugged tubes on the throttle body at the far right of the top pic--THOSE are for EGRs.

That line goes from a tap into the side of the manifold (where the black plug is) to a round idle kickdown gadget* on the side of the throttle body right below where the '01-'02s have the throttle control motor. Since '01-'02 are throttle-by-wire, it wouldn't have any way to function on those years. I am sure its function is electronic in those years.

*I know that is what it does because if you are an idiot like me and forget to push that hose back on firmly your idle will be stuck at 1200 for two months until you finally figure it out by taking your throttle body off again and reinstalling it (didn't actually do it--the hose was the first thing I pulled on and then the light went on when I realized it had been loose.)

Very much so. I can also confirm on my 02' it had nothing on either side of that metal hose.
