I'll be a proud owner of an '03 V6 Limited 4x4 by noon tomorrow and I know I'll need new tires. Other than a few snow trips (big bear, tahoe, mammoth) and towing a boat up/down launch ramps, I won't be driving on anything except highway. Any suggestions for a nice looking, great performing tire that won't break the bank (yet still a good investment).

That's a loaded question

On our current 4 runner, we've had the factory bridgestone (never again), Toyo open country, and bfg tko's. So far, I'd say the toyo's had the best ride and we got about 50k miles out of them. The BFG's so far are a little louder than the toyo's but seem to be wearing nicely and seem to have more snow/ice traction. They also look a lot better... There are a ton of AT's that will suit your needs so check the reviews and forums.
Just some suggestions, take a look at:
BFG TKO - good off road
BFG Rugged Trail - good highway and light trail
Toyo Open Country - good all around
Nitto Terra Grappler - almost the same as the toyo open country
Bridgestone Revo - Good all around tire.
Falken Wildpeak - no clue but popular in Colorado
Michelin LTX-at2 - Expensive but good tire
there are lots of choices out there.. I just gave you what i've had on some vehicles over the years that would probably suit your needs for majority highway, some snow, and a little towing. Hope that helps
I was just in a similar situation and after reading a good bit of reviews I went with the goodyear Wrangler Authority from Walmart... I had mixed feelings with it being a Walmart specific tire but they look awesome, had reviews of being durable for at least 50k miles or more, and I'm about 3k miles in and love them so far... I think they were only maybe $180 a tire as well
I you can sacrifice a little off-road performance..then I'd recommend the Cooper Discovery
HT. I've gone through some good snow with them...they aren't as good in snow as my current tires (Cooper Discovery AT3)..but decent for light to moderate snow. Excellent for highway and rain.

These are superior tires. They have a high cost. Since the time of the post they have crossed the arctic in winter, and driven from the top of Washington to the border of Mexico. Now with 40K miles they still have most of the tread. Not a typical ATR they have soft rubber and fierce sidewall construction. I have been completely impressed with them over the three years. I would not buy another tire. After two icy seasons I did change out to Nokian studded while in Alaska. Now in San Diego and the "rainy" season they are still my favorite tire.

Haven't had to change my tires yet but I'd add Firestone Destination A/T's to the list for consideration. We've got them on my wife's jeep and have been very happy with the way they've worn and their traction on wet and dry roads. We don't really get much snow here so I can't comment on that. They're a little louder than our OEM road tires but that'll be the case for any A/T tire.
I put these on when I got my truck. Works well in the snow, summer roads and the "off road" that I have done. I would buy them again.
