new 4runner

So I am out this morning at an ungodly hour (considering I am on holiday) and see a 4Runner for sale. Stop and look at it and suddenly I am $400 poorer but own another '87 4Runner. Great shape , grey SR5 with a good interior, doors are mint and there are a ton of spare parts. Woohoo! Now I just have to find a place to park it.....

After checking out my new parts truck I have realized that it is too good to be a parts truck. I think I will switch the grey interior for the red one that I have now, clean it up, paint it and sell it. A few minor repairs here and there and it will be a great truck. For being an Ontario truck for 20 years there is supprisingly little rust. The engine was rebuilt 60,000 kms ago and is a good runner. I drove it home during a snow storm and it ran great. Everything works except for the rear window dofroster.
has anyone here ever switched an interior? how big of a job am I looking at? I think that when mine is out I will do a bit of sound proofing and stereo installing. Any tips or suggestions?

I've removed almost every part of the interior at some point or another. Everything comes out very easily, and is either screwed in, or with the carpet and the padding on the topper, glued in. As long as you take you time, you'll be able to figure it all out as you go.

One of my favorite things about these trucks is how simple it is to work on them. When I bought my parts truck all I brought with me to strip the interior and all the other parts I wanted was a ratchet set (all you need is 10, 12 and 14mm) and a Phillips head screwdriver.

Hey Dingman,

Slight hijack but I noticed 2 sets of manual hubs that will fit your 4Runner on ebay that are ending sometime in the next day or two. They looked like OEM.

Thanks for the input Dingmen, I didn't figure it would be a difficult job to do. Just a long one. I think I will remove the grey int and clean it then remove the red, sound proof it and put the grey in. I plan on doing some body and painting on the grey one so I will wait till I am done before re-installing the int in it. Is the glued in padding in the topper easy to remove? I might just switch tops and repaint it as well.
