New 5th Gen owner with some questions

Long time lurker, and I finally got a 4runner! Picked up a 2015 sr5 4x4 in super white. So far I love it but I have some quick questions regarding maintenance to catch it up. It already has 48k miles (was a rental vehicle) paid to have a 2 hour inspection done on it and it passed with flying colors so I bought it for 26k.

Is there anything you pros highly recommend doing considering I'm not sure what all was done in the past and with it already at 50k miles almost? I want to keep it a long time and I'm toying with the idea of changing fluid in diffs/tcase then lubing anything that needs it. Anything else at this miles?

Side question for people with super white, any tricks to taking care of the paint and detailing it?

Before you change the fluid you need to search on the forum. There are a few items on the transfer case and the specific fluid it requires - can't remember all the details but it is critical to not get the wrong stuff. With white you probably need to do a careful detail of the paint. The white is a little different than most colors since the clearcoat is mixed in with it. Lubing the driveshafts is always a good idea.

First few mods are done! Interior lights swapped to LED, all chrome is plasti-dipped black which looks great on white!

I always like to do transmission service every 30k. (even though Toyota says 100k) so at 50k with no documentation of it ever being done that would be on my list as well. Cheers!

You don't have any records of what has been done up to this point? I would expect a rental vehicle to have records. If you're starting blind at ~50k miles, the only things you should need to do/or make sure have been done within the required interval is:
1) oil and filter replacement
2) tire rotation
3) grease driveshaft
4) replace cabin and engine air filters
5) check (not replace) fluid levels in diffs and transfer case
6) inspect for any signs of transmission fluid leakage

I can't imagine a rental vehicle requiring any of the severe service items or intervals, but there is some additional stuff if there is.

Hertz car sales is where I got it and I know they maintain the vehicles for liability reasons, it had brand new tires when I got it, still had the sticker on them. I believe oil was done when it got to the sales lot, but I will have it done soon just to be safe. Engine filter will be easy so I will add that also if its dirty. At oil change they should check other filters and fluids that I might miss hopefully.

Good plan, if nothing else is done there... its usually easier to pay the dealer to do the trans service. With no dipstick it is *possible* to check and service it at home, but much more difficult than an old 700R4 or similar.

The reason I say just check for leaks on the transmission at your mileage is because even for severe service and towing, Toyota doesn't have you do anything until 60k. If no severe service they don't even recommend replacing it ever. There is a generic dealer service bulletin that talks about inspecting the fluid at 100k, but not until then. If you let 'em do anything with the transmission make sure they do it right. Drain and fill only per the Toyota FSM, no flush machines!

Thank you all for the great info. Does the manual show anything about the differentials and transfer case? I called a mechanic and they said for a 2015 it doesn't show them needing to be serviced and he went all the way out to 100k and severe. My main concern is in the 47k miles it has its probably never been put in 4wd and if it has it was probably not off road.... I don't have a booklet and I saw people on here do it every 30k I think, but I wonder if it's necessary

Just get the diffs checked and changed. Also fresh engine oil, new cabin and air filter and you should be good to go til 100K easy. Who knows, someone might have parked it in deep water. Get them checked and changed.
