New and CONFUSED-little help?

Apologies if Im not doing this correctly- I will get better with some practice.

Just purchased my 1st TOYOTA, yes a 4runner SR5, 1995-3.0ltr 5speed manual. Needed something reliable-and something I could afford. Did some research and this fit the bill. I am overwhelmed with all the bells&whistles that this thing has.. But... completely bummed out... too!

The radio/cd player will not work-screen on front says "sec"- (security?) and there is a little "flashing car key" icon on face of radio. I have no idea how to reset this radio.. Anyone out there can steer me in right direction?

Hoping this can be fixed- without alot of cost. Thanks for reading my post

Is this a factory head unit, or after-market?

You need the 4 digit code in your owners manual. Or call a Toyota dealership to get it.

Couldn't you just disconnect the head-unit, then re-connect it. it should reset its self. Try that before anything.

Not necessarily because the whole theory behind the security function is that when power is disconnected from the radio it requires a code to reactivate it when you reapply power. So if a thief were to steal it, its useless to him unless he steals your owners manual too.

My wife is notorious for killing here battery in her cars. We've had to do this in her Civic, Odyssey and Sienna. You need the code! Hondas have a sticker on the inner side of the glove compartment and her Toyota code was in her manual I believe. You can call the dealership and they will give you the code if you don't have the original manual.

Just got clarification from the old lady, she had to call the dealership to get the code.

Thats odd. I', almost 100% sure ive disconnected my head unit, plugged it back in, and everything worked fine. No issues at all. Just had to reset my station presets.
Or maybe i disconnected my factory amp. Not sure.
Nevermind. It was my amp haha

It is possible your radio doesn't have the feature not all do. My 03 with JBL and 6 disc changer didn't have the feature. It was more of a popular feature in the late 80's and 90's when thieves were interested in stock radios.

Hopefully the code was not changed by a previous owner.

If all else fails, Toyota can reset the radio for you but its unlikely they will do it for free.
