new battery, rough idle

Well, the other day I went to leave and the 4R wouldn't start... tried it again and it barely rolled over but it started.. ran fine it seemed ... changed out the battery today and its idling pretty rough now..around 5-600 rpm.... is this because the computer reset and needs to be reprogrammed? Had that happen before.. cleared some codes before smog by disconnecting the battery ... smog guy told me to put 100 miles on it and come back

I don't think the battery replacement is related to the rough idle.

when the "computer reset" as you mention occurs it does not change the idle rpms.

have you done a search for rough idle?

Paste this into google:
Code:
site:toyota-4Runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/ rough idle

The thing is, it ran fine prior to replacing the battery... read somewhere about the ecu having to recalibrate to the sensors when the battery gets disconnected.

They were talking about the computer that sets the F/A ratio when driving .

It is separate from the idle setting. Disconnecting the battery does not normally cause an RPM of 400.

You should accept that it might not be related to that one event and look for common explanations. Also post a link to what you read.
