New BlackVue Dash Cam

I ran min across the roof, down the pillar, under the dash, and to the plug, on the passenger's side. The wire pushed easily into plastic mold and is hidden away.

There is someone on this forum that had a great write up how to route it, I used his instructions. Cannot find the thread right now.

Been considering the same dash cam, is this an upload issue that downgraded the quality? Or is it optimistic to expect these things to pick up license plate numbers?

60fps helps with license plates (i think video on last page was 30), but that's still tough with any dash cam. make sure to audibly read out the license plate so you can record it on audio

If your focus is on capturing license plate numbers, look for a normal angle lens as opposed to a wide angle lens. They are much better for that.

It plugs into your OBD port under the dash - super easy. It also has a switch on the end that enables you to switch between when the camera is powered on - Normal or Parked mode (which will continue recording until your battery discharges below 12 V). Anyway, just my 2 cents.

did you have any issues with it working properly? there were mixed reviews about how it worked in park/normal mode but it was dependent on model/make of car.

GREAT tip, thanks for the heads up. Totally makes sense why people audibly say license plates in those dash cam videos.

My desire for a dash cam would also second for a travel cam for those scenic back road adventures.

they are generally not good enough for pretty travel videos, you'll want a gopro or something instead for that. i've put some offroading clips on instagram (instagram is really low resolution anways) but if you want to make travel videos you'll want something better than a dashcam (although it's nice to have for unexpected stuff)

If your interest is scenic back road adventures i'd probably recommend a less expensive dashcam (some good options <$100) paired with a gopro or something

BlackVue's are great cameras. I will never drive without a dash cam from now on. Too many close calls and crazy people. One example...

None yet - works just as described. It will usually stay on for 4-5 hours after parked until it shuts itself down. Mine is in a Raptor, however. Perhaps some of those issues are specific to certain vehicles.

I have a Blackvue 650 2 channel with the magic pro box, have had it for about 3 years justed took a poop, but good news sent it back to korea for repair i should have it this week. The way i have the magic pro box set up is to record for longer periods of time to make sure if something happens overnight i know about it. problem with that is it killed my battery (stock panasonic). Upgraded the battery and havent had a problem since. just some advise so you dont wake up to a dead camera or dead 4runner

That seems pretty quick to turn off. I have had mine stay on for 30+ hours (forgetting to turn it off in the garage on the weekend) Battery stayed above 12v the whole time.
