New Cooper Discoverer AT3s with pics

Just to add to the never-ending posts about tires, I figured I'd go ahead and post up some pics of the new tires I picked up yesterday.

Cooper Discoverer AT3s in stock 265/65/17 (Made in America). Thought about upsizing but decided to keep the stock size. As much as I love looking at the pics of the sweet modded 4Runners on here I don't realistically see myself doing any crazy offroading in the next 5 years or so. By the time I get around to lifting it, I'll be ready for some new tires, so I'll re-evaluate then. (might pick up some spacers soon, whether SunGod likes it or not).

Nothing much to review on yet. I've only put about 75 miles on them joyriding around checking for balance issues (none yet). New tires are always fun.

As they wear I'll report back from time to time with handling updates in various weather (we get all kinds here in Denver).

I paid $767 OTD from Discount Tire. They price matched a quote I was giving from Swis Tire/ Coloradoland Goodyear. I only went with Discount because of the number of stores in case something happens while traveling and because of the lifetime balance/rotation.

Drove up near Red Rocks (I work a few miles from there) but there was a concert tonight so couldn't get any very scenic pics. These are a bit washed out anyways. I blew out the shadows so people could see the tread pattern etc. I realize I didn't blur my license plates. I drive past hundreds of people everyday so don't really care. I have no secrets. You want to know who I am, just PM me.

Here are the pics. They don't do them justice. They look really great in person. Much better than the worn out Dunlop GrandTrek AT20s. And I could swear my transmission downshifts better when in stop and go traffic. But maybe my intelligent transmission is just training me better.

I've had my AT3's on for a year now. Little noisier then the Discovery HT tires...but the ride is EXCELLENT. Very good on dry pavement..and about the best we driving tire I've ever owned....Visited my Sister in upstate NY last year for a couple weeks of major snow...and they handled beautifully. Hardly any snow here in NH...so the NY trip was a good test.

Hi guys,

Two weeks ago(and about 800 miles) I put on a set of the Cooper AT3’s and couldn’t be happier. I was worried about the noise at highway speeds…but I can’t tell any difference from the Michelin Cross Terrains I replaced. Great road manners and for the light off roading I do, they work like a charm. I'm impressed to say the least.
My question is, what air pressure are you running? I drove about 400 miles at 28lbs (set from the installer), that seemed a little soft and the TPMS light was coming on and off. So, I cranked them up to 35lbs for 400 miles and the rears seem like the shoulder isn’t making contact with the pavement. Probably need to do a chalk test to dial it in.
Just wondering what you guys think?

Its between these, BFG All-Terrain KO, Nitro Trail Grapplers, Yoko Geo lander HTS or Michelin LTX MS2. I do very little off road. Mostly a pavement pounder. I would like little noise but good Wet/ Icy traction (when it snows in GA, it snows) which ones do y'all think are the best for me?

I know have 40k miles on my AT3's....plenty of tread left.

EXCELLENT tires. Noisier then the Cooper Discovery HT's...but the AT3's are more aggressive and much better in snow and off-road then the HT's. So far...very impressed with the tire.

My new set of 265/70r17 will be here on Thursday. Can't wait sine my cross terrains are plenty worn away and I wanted a little more tire. I am hoping I have the same results as posted above.

I run 32 psi on my Hankook Dynapros. That seems to be the best pavement psi. Offroad, I normally go to 20, though I don't go too hardcore with the 4R.

I have the Geolander H/T-S, and they're relatively quiet and long-wearing on the road. don't know about snow performance. They're good in the rain, though. I personally want something gnarlier, just for the hell of it, but am worried about the likely increase in road noise.

I did get the air pressure dialed in. Drove in and out of the garage onto the wet driveway a few times to get the contact patch right. Ended up with 33psi front and 31psi rear, that’s also with no other weight in the truck (but myself), which is about 80% of my driving.

I've been using Cooper tires for 20+ years now. I switched over to Cooper when Michelin tire prices started to outpace the market. Love Michelin tires too....but I think the Coopers are far better for the money.

Cooper also make Mickey Thompson & **** Cepek. They offer a great lineup of brands and rubber products.

I plan on doing a lot of skiing this year so I am getting a set of these instead of new skis, hopefully I can get them on this weekend.

Bought a set of Michelin LTX M/S 2 off of tirecrawler.com for $800. Compared miles to price and were about the same as the Coopers. Nice quite ride with no complaints. Family car so not much off road besides Arizona dirt and logging roads. Replaced the Yoko Geolanders ATS. They became really noisey around 35k. Was told it was due to the bigger blocks on the tires.
