Hey guys/gals- Just bought a 2018 TRD ORP in super white. I want to share some thoughts and maybe a different perspective than most owners and prospective owners.
For some background my last 4 cars have been BMW's, two of which were coupes, and all which were owned/financed. My most recent a 335i w/ M-sport pkg. I love(d) that car. It was fast, black on black, and it was fully loaded. It had what feels like 10x the features/comforts/electronics that a new model 4Runner has. When it came time to look into a new vehicle I was between an X5, Yukon, XC90, and a Macan. Some buddies of mine have 4Runner TRD's and I thought they were cool but not really my thing.
Obviously I own one now so I'll save the rationale for later on. As most can attest to I've found that the 4Runner has little to no creature comforts, outdated electronics, bad MPG, and is excruciatingly slow. It also may be the most awesome vehicle I've ever owned.
I know a lot of people complain and scoff at the points above regarding the 4Runner but I can tell you even with all of that, the 4Runner is a breath of fresh air. As I said above, I loved my past cars. They looked great and performed great but everything came with a price. They were in constant need of upkeep, whether it be wear and tear, recalls, or factory warranty work. Between the almost criminal maintenance bills and rapid depreciation you get to a point where you just get tired of it all.
Between the low maintenance, awesome residual, relatively inexpensive parts (that TRD Pro grill though wtf), and on/off road quality I really don't think you can beat the 4Runner when you look at the total package. Originally I told myself I would likely keep this vehicle for 2-3 years and roll the equity into something else but with every new day I find myself leaning towards rolling it into another 4Runner
For the funny bits...
I'm still finding myself walking up to the car, pulling the handle, and having it not unlock. I still get in with the (dinosaur era) key in my pocket and go to hit the start button. I still come close to crashing into walls while parking because I'm waiting for the audible parking sensor to tell me to stop. When it rains by the time I figure out what wiper speed is best (because there's no auto sensing wipers) the rain has usually subsided and I'm 50/50 at remembering to turn my low beams on before driving away at night so far. But hey I can book a reservation through Open Table

All joking aside, I couldn't be happier and have zero regrets. Now time to go down the rabbit hole of mods!
