You gotta link or pics? I googled it and only found japanese sights. Nothing on ebay, nothing on Crutchfield.

Unless my work firewall is blocking some sights, I dunno...

I'm waiting for the new Alpine unit, the IVA-W205 featuring the removable navigation unit (the Blackbird.) Nice!

I just had an AVN 5500 installed in my T4R. I used the Metra Wiring adapter and everything works great. I am less happy with the dash kit that was used - Metra I believe. The face of the HU sticks out about 1/4" from the trim and there are small gaps between the dash kit and the dash.

What dash kit did you use and is the face of the unit pretty flush with the dash kit insert?

i used the scosche dash kit, yes the unit sticks out a bit but i dont mind it . If u wannnaa check, when the screen is down, the unit is flush. so that means its just the screen that sticks out a bit. still unnoticeable. one question, why did u use a wiring adapter ? the factory harness plugs directly into the eclipse units. no wiring adapters needed, just a dash kit.

I have the jbl synthesis system. All of my research indicated that an adapter was required to properly turn on and control the digital amp. The steering wheel controls were plug and play however.

My unit is almost flush when the face is down. It sticks out maybe 1/8" past the dash kit. It looks ok. I will probably be making a custom face plate which will make it flush. Aparently the Metra dash kit that was used was not the right one for a '06 SE. The installer said there is not a dash kit available for my vehicle. What year and model Runner do you have.

I have had the unit for just a few days, but so far I really like it.

that explains the wiring harness LOL :-)

i have an 04 ........

did u do the boot screen mod yet ?

anyone know if theres an update disc commin out ?

What is the boot screen mod?

I have the version 1.4 nav dvd. I see on the eclipse website there is a new disc out for this year - MDV-07D. Do you know what the difference is? Look like there are more POIs.

u have a avn 5500 ? and a north america version 1.4 disc ?? I have a 5500 with a 1.3 disc ...... DOH can u make me a copy ?when did u buy ur system? i got min back when it first came out.

when ur avn5500 boots up it says "ECLIPSE AVN...." or something like that with a white background. u can change it and put ur own picture there. but if u pull the battery or fuse it resets.

here are the instructions i copied from another post :

Changing the Opening Screen Image for the AVN5500 & AVN6600

- Same for the AVN2454, AVN5435 and AVN30D

The image displayed on the opening screen (which is displayed when the power is turned on) can be changed to a Jpeg image stored on a CD-R/RW.

Step 1> "When storing the image data in a CD-R/RW disc make a text file named "CSM.txt" (any content /text is OK) and store it together with the image data.
To create this necessary file, open Microsoft Notepad In Accessories. The text data within the file does not matter. Simply save the file as "CSM.txt" and Include the file on the same disc with the image or images you wish to use for the Opening Screen.
Tip: If you need to modify the image to fit the AVN screen, you can use Microsoft Paint in Accessories or any other image adjustment software.
Format for the disc and image data:
- File size: smaller than 100KB
- File name: ISO9660 standard (keep file name less than 18 characters)
- File extension: .jpg
- Max image size: 416(W) x 240(H) pixels
Step 2> Burn the image or images you want to the CD-R/RW along with the CSM.txt file. Keep the files on the root of the CD

Thanks for the boot screen change procedure. I will give it a try when I get back home. I am in Canada for a couple of weeks. When I get home I can make you a copy of ver 1.4. PM me with contact info.

I bought the AVN 5500 a couple of weeks ago new from an internet dealer and had it installed last week. After seeing the 5510 features I wish I had of waited but I got this one so cheap, I'll be pretty happy for quite a while. I beats using my Garmin gpsmap 65csx in the car.
