New Ford Maverick

There might be a good reason why I don’t work in marketing, but I think it’s a bad idea for Ford to use the Maverick name for a truck. I don’t have fond memories of the Maverick car, so I wouldn’t use the Maverick name for anything.

Dodge reintroduced the Dart, and to me it bears no resemblance to the Dart of the 60’s and 70’s.

Seems like it could be a neat vehicle if it met one's needs, but to me (being old enough to remember and have experience with the car of the same name), that name carries too much baggage.

My parents bought the blue one below in 1969, just as they came out. 200 CID 6-cylinder, 3 on the tree, vinyl bench seats and no air conditioning. My brother got the first shot at it, and after he'd beaten the hell out of it, I took it to college in the fall of 1972. Actually had a lot of fun with that car and it took a ton of abuse without too much complaint. Ended up selling it in 1976 for $150 and bought a new 1976 Honda Civic.

My parents bought the yellow one pictured below in 1973, trading in their 1968 Mustang on it. You can see the old blue one in the background. It was the so-called luxury model, with a 302 V8 and an automatic. My mother's car. Got terrible gas mileage and had a lot of mechanical problems. I once drag-raced a friend's 4-cylinder Mercury Capri with it and lost. I liked the old one a lot better, even through it was a pretty much a strippo and had been run through the ringer by the time I got it.

Anyway, sort of fond memories; but I'd have a hard time getting over that name on a new vehicle now.

When the Maverick was around, when I was a kid, it was a tin box a little larger than the Pinto. Pinto means penis btw in Portuguese. The Brazilians nicknamed Bill Clinton "Bill Pinto" after that little incident with that Monica trash bag.

Now Fords be bringing it backs as a pick up based on a Bronco platform assembled in Mexico.

I see a Mercury Montego in the street. That would have been a better name for Ford to resurrect.

I believe it's a 1966 Ford Country Squire. Maybe that would have been a better name too, especially if they were to offer fake wood sides on it.

Well that’s good to know, but maybe lighten up. You have to be able to laugh at Tricky Dick and Clinton or you’ll stay pretty PO’ed. At least that’s what this child of the 70’s and 80’s thinks.

Oh, I can laugh at Tricky Dick and Clinton(what a disappointment).
But calling a woman he doesn’t know a trash bag is not cool. Those of us with daughters can relate.

Reminds me of my boss telling me I couldn’t relate to Trump saying grab them by their junk because I don’t have a daughter.

There have been billions and billions of daughters, with billions and billions of fathers. Think about that for a second. Your understanding of daughters is not something that is unique. It’s hilariously not unique. It’s human, and we’re all humans. We get it without knowing you and your daughter. lol

Ok, I get it now. You don’t have one so you really do not ‘understand’.
And the Ford Maverick? I gave up on domestic vehicles years ago because they were all crap. Maybe they aren’t now, but more than twice burned….I’m out.
