New from Maryland, seeking help speccing my '98 4Runner

So I am the second owner of this 1008 4runner. My mom gave it to me when she bought her honda. The 4runner has 94k miles and is still running very well! Unfortunately I am but a novice when it comes to car maintenance/upgrades :crybaby: but I can do very basic things like change tires and oil! And so with that being said I was hoping I could get some advice on how to upgrade this baby! Although I would probably be able to find most of these things, I wouldn't mind getting feedback on what other people have used before. I want to get a 4 inch lift on it, get a guard rail that covers the front+headlights, a new sound system, off road and/or all terrain tires, and anything else that you guys might think is useful for a rookie 4runner owner. Also, does anyone know how one goes about fixing water damage on the ceiling of the car?

Nice 4runner! I didn't know they made an 11th century model (your description says it's a 1008 4runner) haha. Read the sticky on 3rd gen suspension FAQs at the top of the 3rd gen page for lift info. Brushguards suck IMO and don't look better than a stock bumper so I recommend saving up and getting a winch/offroad bumper like an ARB, Shockworks, Armorology, etc.. Brushguards also don't provide any real protection and as a matter of fact many would agrue (including myself) they cause more damage in an impact than if it wasn't there.

You could try to remove the headliner and wash it, but I'll bet the stains will come if you just scrub it with soap and water while it's still attached. There are lots of threads on tires. A lot of people like the Goodyear Duratracs which are an M/T and A/T hybrid. I run Maxxis Bighorns and for the price, I think they're the best bang for your buck (they sing songs on the freeway though - very loud).

What kind of lift kit do you use on your truck? Also I am having trouble finding an exhaust for the car... any ideas?

Lots of people like Magnaflow, Flowmaster, Borla to name a few exhausts. I'm going to be getting a Magnaflow in a couple of weeks, but I still haven't decided on what size. I think I'm going to get a 20".

Where in MD?

Maryland4runner...where in MD are you located. I now live in PA (just over the line), but have lived most of my life in MD and still work in MD.

I just recently installed the OME 3 inch lift. If you are interested in seeing & riding in person, let me know. Not too many people from our area on here. I love the OME lift, rides perfect. Toytech treated me well and fast shipment.

Try oxi-clean on those stains on the ceiling. Mix a scoop of the powder with a bottle of hot water and scrub away. Use a wet, white rag [I say white to avoid transferring any dyes] to wash away any residue the oxi-clean solution might leave behind, and dry it with a white towel or rag. Good luck!!
