New guy needs advice!

Hey everyone well I am a long time Honda guy I have had alot of civics and I just sold my s2000 because I am looking to get a new 911 next year. Anyways I really want something that will be good in all weather and road conditions. I couldn't find a decent Subaru so I started to look at 4runners. I found one I like it's a 2000 4 cyclinder manual 2wd for 5,500 OBO. My only problem is the mileage is 205,000! This would be my first Toyota I am just not sure if I should buy one with such high mileage. There are a few 1998-99 with 150,000 miles but I really like the 2000 front end! Are there any common issues I should look for on these vehicles? Also is there a engine removal DIY on this forum? I always do my own work so I just like to see how difficult major repairs are. I appreciate everyone's help and advice

Also do all 4runners have all disk brakes?

2002 and older have drum brakes unless somebody did a custom disk brake swap to it. Can't speak for 2003 & newer.

ANY vehicle with that high of mileage can be a ticking time bomb, but on the other hand if it's well maintenanced it can still have a lot of life left in it (it IS a Toyota after all). It's just so hard to determine how well it was maintained, how hard it was driven, etc.

As for the common problems, I'm sure others will chime in.

I would hold out for a V6 ... for $5500, you should be able to do better than what you listed

I appreciate everyone's help I live in Sacramento California. I wanted a 4 cylinder for MPG and a manual because I hate drive automatics. No snow around here I just wanted a vehicle I can take to the river or lake and not worry about a little off reading. I have a price range of $6000-$10000 but I just can not seem to find anything with decent mileage and a manual tranny. Might have to go find a civic :-(

hi fellow norcaler to be honest 4banger 3rd gen t4r dont get that good of mpgs, if i were you i'd buy a 1st gen with a 22re engine, preferably with solid front axle, then use all the money you saved to make the interior really nice, then you got a rig that is very capable and very nice to drive, imo 22re is the almost reliable as 5vzfe, and they are tons of fun, itd be hard to kill a 22re and for those hot sac summer weather i'd be really nice to have a removable top, 99% of 3rd gen owners wish they can remove their top lol

I can afford the gas I just want my daily driver to be cheap on gas and my weekend warrior to be sick
