New Member and a couple questions on 1st gens

Uneblievable!! I'm in shock that Darin is selling it after all the work he has put into that thing (45,000 head gaskets, 50,000 turbos, 100,000 fluid changes :wow:)

Edit: I'm exaggerating of course.

This might be posted in the classifieds. I think he posts on here. Anyway, I have seen this one in person and it is clean. Its also the fastest 1st gen I have been in.

I didn't think they made the turbo version in 88. Wasn't that the first year that the 3.0 came out meaning the turbo went away in 87? Also those body graphics don't look right for an 88.

Just trying to get my history straight.

That runner looks super nice either way.

That's an insane price for that rig.

Niteman, the 22re is what you want. It's only drawback is lack of power compared to modern rigs, but it's built to last. Seriously. Folks regularly put over 300,000 on theirs without problems. Mine lasted until 260,000, but the previous owner hadn't heard of oil changes... :gun6:

Manual, auto, whatever is your preference there, the W56 and A340 series are both proven transmissions.

IFS will be fine for what you're doing. When a solid axle flexes, it brings the truck with it. When IFS flexes, it raises the wheel but not the truck. The solid axle is better for crawling over seriously rough terrain, but you pay for it in a rougher ride on the road. IFS is a smoother ride on the road, and perfectly capable of the light off-road duty you have in mind.
