Well my story hasn't changed, I have a Camry and I hate it. Now onto something better.

I've convinced my best friend to drop his 2011 WRX and see the light in the 3rd gens. Finally he has agreed, and as I type this he's driving back to Savannah from St. Louis with his new 02 4Runner golden pearl. He is hitting the ground running with this thing and I'll be whispering in his ear every step of the way. He will be posting up soon I'm sure but be expecting a lift and tires soon with lots more coming. Sure to be an interesting build, and in a rare color for sure.

I'll be showing my face a bit more around here with him around, obviously I need to live vicariously through him. In other news I've listed my Camry just to see if I can get what's owed on it then I myself may be becoming a reborn 3rd gen owner. Stay tuned to his thread, he's going to give you guys some good material over the coming months.

I have never seen one totally decked out, and I REALLY want to!
 
Welp here goes my first post. Just picked up the Pearl White yesterday morning and drove it back down south. Its a pretty clean car and has about 133k miles. Im going to detail it this weekend and post some pictures up. Im ordering the lift and tires along with some other goodies on Friday.

Needless to say I put a ****load of work into Weston's 4Runner only to watch him sell it, I think I painted that thing at least 6 times among other stuff. And just for the record, I told him not to sell that thing over a hundred times, which Im sure ya'll did the same haha. His 4Runner is basically what started my itch to build a 3rd gen and I always had a thing for the pearl whites. I have yet to see a proper build with this color so get your panties ready boys its going to be a hell of a build!

17" Wheels- Still deciding between a few designs, if I go oem I will powdercoat them gun metal.
Sport Hood
Gobi Rack- Not sure if I want to pay the price for it, but it really set Weston's truck off so I am leaning towards buying it.
Gobi Ladder
Other small stuff like led interior lights, HID's, etc...

Should have everything installed by the first weekend in January. Would do it sooner but running out of time between work and the holidays.
 
Sounds like fun. But good luck getting a sport hood paint matched in that color, that will be an adventure in itself.
 
I have some connections at the local Toyota dealership and if I have to get the front end re painted for a nice blend then so be it. Whatever it takes for the sport hood on white pearl!
 
With an introduction like this I was expecting a solid axle and 37's!

Just a couple of things. Think long and hard about doing some ToyTec coilovers or some other brand COs in front. I wish I did when I first lifted. The COs can grow if you change lifts down the road and you can dial in the exact lift you want. The nice thing about the ToyTec ones is that they use an off the shelf shock that is maintenance free and can be replaced down the road if needed.

As far as wheels. The bigger the wheel, the smaller the sidewall. The smaller the sidewall, the rougher the ride and are more prone to pinch flats and popping beads when aired down.

X2 on the coilover. I wish I had gone with the toytec ultimate instead of my OME kit. I have swapped everything out from that kit to better stuff. Except for the front setup, but that will be coilovers in the summer too.

I think 17s are fine unless you are a hardcore wheeler, i love mine. 18+ is where you have gone too far.
 
How does the ride compare between the two lifts?

I had considered the Toytec coilovers, but I was worried that the shocks would require maintenance. I'll have to look back into them. I'm sticking to 17's, hopefully 4th or 5th gen wheels, to give it a more modern look. If you guys see any 6 spoke 4th gen sport wheels let me know.
 
The ToyTec COs are built on a stock/off the shelf Bilstein shock. Unlike most COs that are built on a custom rebuildable shock. True, the bilstein can't be rebuilt or revalved but it is a sealed unit that holds up with zero maintenance. IF you are desert racing, then the others are probably a better choice so you can make changes.
