Hello All,

I work at at Subaru dealership and we took in on trade a very-well maintained 09 Black Urban Runner, it has the brush guard as about the only mod. Very nice Michelins with about 50% of the tread remaining. Lets just say I got it for an amazing deal, the plan was to let the GF drive that since we traded in her junk 07 Mazda3 and I have a 13 Legacy limited, but lately she has been driving that because I frickin LOVE the 4Runner.

It has about 108k on it which I know is high for the year, but the previous owner was a friend of my GM and he literally did every single maintenance item up until he traded it in. That being said, as I approach 110k on the truck, what should I start to look into doing as far as maintenance goes? Oil changes in this truck were done every 3k with full synthetic, according the records the diffs were serviced within the last 10k miles, and it is the v6 not the v8 so no belt. I am looking forward to learning a lot about my truck from you guys!

The Toolbox and How to Use It

Main thing with the V6 model is the notable head gasket issue. Any idea if that was serviced?

someone can correct me if I'm wrong, and i very well might be, but i believe the HG was redesigned and wasnt an issue outside of the 03-04 model years

I wish you weren't wrong... as I have an 05. Thankfully I haven't had any signs yet (knock on wood) but a lot of members on here have reported blown HG's on 05's... no 06 or above that I know of.... there's a poll on the forum somewhere that they're keeping track of reported blown HG by build date.

06-09 has a redesigned HG so it's not likely to be plagued like the 03-05, there was a long thread about it a while back. In any case, it's still prudent to at least do one drain and refill of the radiator the pink Toyota SLLC as it's always a good practice to keep it fresh.

If it were me, I'd still change out the diffs and t-case with a quality synthetic 75w90 like Mobil 1 or Valvoline if you're looking off-shelf, change the coolant, maybe get the dealer (or good Toyota indy) to do an ATF drain and fill with WS at the minimum, change the PCV valve, check the filters, and grease the drive train. Maybe see if/when the plugs were done last as well. See when the brake fluid was last flushed, it's an important thing to have working right in the winter, and do a couple turkey basters of the PS reservoir (often a forgotten fluid).
