So I just joined a couple days ago and was wondering what's a lift kit?
Just kidding
But for real I have been searching this forum for about.a year now and have found lots of helpful information. My next mod I am doing is lifting my 4runner.
I really would like to keep it as cheap as possible since I don't do very much offroadimg as of now.
My plan was to get the 3" lift with all the coils from toytec but can't justify spending all that other money for the complete kit just for shocks.
So I was just wondering what other shocks are you all using with the ome coils and would I be okay just using the stock shocks for now.

Yes you can use stock length with OME shocks. That is the set-up I currently have. You dont get very much travel at all though. I will be replacing mine sooner rather than later. I have been advised not to go with a shock that has more than 10in of travel bc you can loose a spring.
 
Thanks for such the quick reply. Good to know I can do that. I think I might rather just replace the shocks while I'm in there.

So my next question is what other aftermarket shocks that are cheaper can you run with ome coils.Let's here what everyone has
 
You can always just buy the bilsteins separate and buy the coils from toytec. You don't have to buy the diff drop and stuff from them.
 
Bils run about 300 per set sometimes. If you have they $$ that's great. IMO not worth it. Just find someone who makes them with 8-10 inches of travel.
I realize some will think I'm an idiot for saying this but I just don't see much of a difference.
 
Yeah thats definately a lot of money. Im really considering leaving the stock shocks in since my 4runner only has 60K miles on it. But any other shock with 8-10" of travel will work?
 
60k!. Thats really low for a 3rd gen. Nice find. What did you pay for it?

Im using KYB gas adjust shocks right now. I dont know how they compare to bilsteins, but theyre extreamly stiff. And they havent loosened up any with the 10k miles ive put on them. They seem like a high quality shock if you dont mind a stiff ride. And you can get the set of 4 for around $200
 
Rancho RS5000's for the back, and KYB gas a justs at the front, If you search around you can get the ranchos for $80 a set and around the same for the kyb's at the front. I know advance auto sells them both and they have $40 off $100 coupon codes and in store pick up, so if you are smart you should be able to get new shocks all around for $150ish with a lifetime warrenty. And if you are really good you buy the ranchos for an older LC, and the fronts from a tundra so you can get all the travel you want from the shocks after you lift it.
And then its like only $350 for the front and rear coils from toytec if you buy at the right time, so about $500-$550 for a brand new all coil lift.

Well i got really lucky and when i was going to buy my first car my grandpa offered me his 4runner he owned from brand new and it was love at first sight. He barely drove it and im pretty sure washed it every other day/

Im not too worried about that stiff of a ride as long as its not horrible. Where did you get them at?

That actually sounds perfect, exactly what i wanted to hear. Im like 5 minutes away from an advance auto also. Thanks for the help. Now for the lift question would i be better off just buying the lc coils the first time? It seems like most people switch over anyway.

Cant remember. I just googled them and found the best price

Is your front end pretty stiff with those KYB's?
