New member, need advice

When I purchased my current vehicle, stupid me bought the extended warranty that covers for 7yrs or 125,000 miles. Hopefully less than 2 months from now I should be getting my new 4R. However, my current car is sitting at 45,000 miles and 5yrs old. My question, what happens to the extended warranty I paid for? Obviously I'm not getting another Ford so I know it can't be transferred. Is it possible that the Toyota dealership would give me more for my trade in because of this warranty coverage? Or should I contact Ford and hopefully get a pro rated amount back? Or am I sh*t out of luck? This is the first time I have been in this situation. I do know however, that I will never purchase an extended warranty ever again, lol. Any advice is appreciated, thanks. :hello:

Sometimes the warranty transfers with the vehicle, sometimes it doesn't. If it transfers with the vehicle, you might be able to list it as a selling point. Honestly, I'd just contact the warranty company and cash out the remainder (you'll probably get more value out of it this way).

Occasionally they will pro rate and refund the difference, but pretty rare, its up to their guidelines and regulations

On the paperwork they gave me it says transferrable, but I'm assuming that only works if you stay with their brand. So I'm hoping to get a pro-rated amount instead. I just had an o2 sensor go out so I'm taking it tomorrow to get fixed. I will ask about my options then. Thanks for the input everyone.

you can cash in the reminder of your unused warranty and get cash, or use it to increase the resale value. 9/10 times cashing it in works better for you.

When I got my 4runner, I traded in a Tacoma that had used part of the extended warranty. I think I paid like 1200 for it, when I cashed it in I got over 1000 back.

Best way to find out is ask a dealer, but do it before you sell the old vehicle

Definitely check with the dealership you purchased the warranty from. My fiancé recently found out she could cancel an extended warranty that she purchased and received a prorated refund. Getting the finance department to return our calls was a pain but we eventually got it taken care of.

Follow Up

Update on my refund check:

Just got back from a 7 day cruise out of Galveston to find that my refund check came in the mail. $1300.69 WHOOP WHOOP!! Didn't think it would be that much. On another good note, I won $89.00 on a $1 slot machine at the Casino on the ship. Won on the 4th bet and cashed out right away!! Had a blast, but good to be back home. :whoo:

Doubt they would allow you to transfer the warranty but never know!
I would call up the dealership, worse case is they'll say no
