New Member. New Runner

Hey everyone. Just got a 4runner a couple weeks ago. i haved loved them forever but have never found the right one. (they are quite pricy here in nova scotia)
1998 sr5 v6 4wd
270000kms
two owner. dealer maintained and have all service records
closest thing to off road its been is the previous owners gravel driveway (until i got it)
works great. rockers are shot but the underneath is still great and solid.
completely stock
oh and rear window works! around here that seems to be rare haha

here are some pictures












plans:
-remove running boards (add side steps)
-plasti-dip bumpers. personally love the chrome bumpers on toyotas but rear is starting to rust
-2.5-3" lift. (researching what one is best for me cause i dont have endless money
-bigger, better tires of some sort 33's if i could
-guard, again, really not sure what yet.
-roof racks and/or basket
-oh and replacing rockers of course

Nice rig! And welcome to the world of 4Runners... as far as your planned upgrades go, I highly recommend the Gobi stealth rack. I had one on my 4th gen and I have one on my 3rd gen now. Super great for stuff, but also for people sitting while tailgating. My entire rig is plastidipped, and while its great for easy repairs, it is super imperative you fix rust or holes before you dip. My back bumper was dipped by the guy who owned it before me, and he fixed everything except the back bumper rust The plastidip is starting to separate and peel by the bumper corner rust. Minor details, but something to consider.

Congrats, and welcome aboard. Glad you were able to find a nice 4R, the upgrades you have planned should make it a fun trail rig. Just make sure all of the PM is up to date (belts, fluids, etc.) before you start with the fun stuff. Have fun with it!

thanks guys for the advice. i will definitely make sure she's all up to date. i have all the service records (from Toyota at that). also good to know about the rust and plasti-dip. the guy who recommend it to me didn't mention that.
and ill look into that rack.
and of course ill keep updating what ive done to it haha

I'd say buff and wax remove running boards, plasti dip ALL chrome, do a solid axle swap and call it a day lol

Wtf? Why? A solid axle swap is a lot of work to do right, and it changes the truck significantly in several key areas. If the OP needs a solid axle to use the truck like he wants, I'm sure he'll consider it, but you cannot just "do a solid axle swap and call it a day" like the rest of the cosmetic mods you suggested.

Welcome to the 4Runner world! You'll love it, they're great vehicles.
Love the mud you've already gotten on it! Definitely lose the running boards though, it looks much better without them (in my opinion)

SAS is in the potential long term projects cause. because it is also my work truck and I haven't done enough research to know if it will work for me.
as far as the runnning boards, wife wants to keep them on, sooooo, im on a fishing trip this weekend ill see if i can maybe break them a bit lol

Bring a sledge with you. Will make "breaking" them a little easier, or at least bending them.
