After so many years of hating stock head unit in my 4runner, I finally swapped it out to an Alpine iLX-W770. And I love it. I have an aftermarket rear camera on bumper and just installed one up front too (I always wanted something to help me see approach angles on hills when wheeling). The head unit allows me to easily swap between it all -- no need for a Prestige override, works when driving. Apple CarPlay works perfectly, and also added the Sirius antenna. The entire system is a game changer. Makes my decade old rig feel about as new I need it to be.
Additionally, I changed the rear view mirror to a Rydeen W770. I love this thing. With all the stuff on my swing out bumper, spare tire, jerry cans, spare tire mounted bicycle rack, I haven't been able to see anything from rear view mirror for years. Add window tinting into the mix, and it's just been useless for almost a decade. The Rydeen is great. Gives me a different (higher angle) to see behind me if I need to reverse on a trail, and records my front and rear views in case I get in a wreck or something and need footage.
My only regret is that I didn't do all of this sooner. Had all of the work done at an excellent shop in Rosemead, CA called ProTint -- HIGHLY RECOMMEND them. Great work and terrific pricing.
