New Mexico 4Runner Owners Thread

On a somewhat unrelated note: Can anyone recommend a good Toyota/transmission mechanic in the Albuquerque area? Looking to have my clutch replaced sometime in the future and don't really have the time or patience to mess with it.

Toyomasters. San Antonio & Hawkins. 505-890-8696. Ask for Chris or Todd, they are the owners. Great shop... Toyota & Lexus only... trustworthy, knowledgeable, and experienced. I've been using them for 12 years.

Spose that works for me, old ladies a massage therapist, and my job description is tricky, journeyman low volt electrician, part welded, part fab, part heavy labor

Subscribed. Thanks Ripcord. BTW I think I saw you just a day or two ago pulling out of the new sporting good store parking lot off of Alameda in the evening.

Good morning everyone!

Weather is shaping up finally and we are bound to have an epic summer. Me and a friend are going to be headed to Conchas for the first run of the season for some good old fashion camping. He's got two jetski's out there so we have to take them out of their winter coma and hope that the weather is somewhat warm to play a little. We will be out there Wednesday the 21st through the 23rd at Cannon cove (unless its windy, then we will be at the Army Corp main dock) in my desert dune 3rd gen. All are welcome to come. Usually some really good dock fishing and the lake is this empty early in the season so it's usually a really good time.

With that being said, I don't want to make the journey with my M/T so I picked up some used Goodyear radials but now need some wheels to slap them on. Anyone have a set of wheels I can purchase from you?

Hope everyone has a great day.

I saw you there too, as I got back to my truck. I work there, should see me parked there quite often.

Your 4runner looks nice btw!

Did they finally open up that D_ck's Sporting Goods you were telling me about, Ripcord?

PoRunner,

Conchas sounds like a good time. I'm working those days, but I remember back in the day I used to have a buddy who I'd accompany out there for the spring shakedown run. Good times. Cannon cove is a great place to camp.

We usually have an awesome time fishing and what-not. Hopefully the weather holds together and it isn't too windy but there are ways around that so it's not to big of a deal. We will arrive at about 4pm on Wednesday and will probably leave at sun down on Friday so my rig runs colder. If anyone wants to make a day trip we will have steaks and mas cervezas.

As you got back to your truck? I was passing in between Lowes and D_cks, you were pulling out of D_cks. I wasn't sure if that was you, and I kinda did a double take as I passed. First time seeing your ride in real life, not the forum. Looks very nice!

I think you mentioned something about the bus, do you ride the bus to UNM? I've been riding it to save $ on gas, since its been on the rise.

What are you studying?

Yup. Well not to the public until like the 20th or something. Still doing training and stocking.

Nice...

Right on man, hope you guys have a good time out there, and that the wind gives you a break.

Yeah I ride the blue line to unm, usually park at the cottonwood mall stop. Doing mechanical engineering. What about you?

I was waiting to share this with you guys until I was able to get the parts I needed off the truck, but U-Pull and Pay on South Broadway has a pretty clean, relatively complete 3rd gen 4Runner on their lot.

It's a 1996 SR5 4wd 5speed, dark green ext, tan interior.

Just figured I'd let everyone know in case you guys need anything.

I scored myself this bad boy for $60 (e-locker retrofit coming very soon!):

And the day before, grabbed replacement parts for all this (plus a crossmember, not pictured) for $20:

Here's some pics of the truck for reference:

Nice! I went there a few months ago and they only had 2nd gens at best.

Those 5-speed parts look mighty tempting.

There's also a white 1st gen over there (about 3 cars down from the 3rd gen) that's got a roll bar in it anyone's interested in that.

I'm kind of thinking it over as a possibility for the '97.

I tried taking the CV's today for trail spares, but I'll be damned if I couldn't break that 35mm hub nut loose. I was jumping on my breaker bar and that thing wouldn't budge. I'm going to re-think my method and go back again for those CV's.

Thanks!

Yeah I'm riding the blue line too, usually on at the transit station. I'm sure we've crossed paths and not known.

I'm a Civil Engineering major. How long you have left? I still got 2-3 years.

Im sure we have. What time do you ride it? On M/W/F I get on at like 8:10, and on T/TH I get on at 7:10.

I also have 2 years left.

Thanks, I'll have to give them a call. Pretty much the only independent Toyota specific shop I could find when initially looking a couple months back. Looks like they may have moved to the westside too (better for me actually): Answers

You guys should have a man date. :naughty:

They were originally on the westside, right there by cottonwood, when I first found them... they moved to the location on Hawkins 5-6 years ago I think. AFAIK, that's where they plan to stay.

Just noticed that one in at the U-pull it has a cargo cover.. those could pull a decent chunk of change on the forums.
