Got a question for the Tacoma guys...

My wife has a 2002 pre-Runner, 2WD tacoma and needs new brake pads in the front,

Are the OEM Tacoma pads ceramic or the organic type???

I went ahead and got new Brembo Rotors (6 lug) and Akebono ceramic pads.

No the OEM pads are not ceramic as far as I know.

That's what I thought since this is the second set my wife wore out....LOL!!!

I got the top of the line Akebono Ceramic pads to replace the OEMs with.

yea tacos like to eat through front brakes for some reason. i just recently installed some ceramic ones with slotted and drilled rotors so hopefully they last. does she still have soft brakes with the new setup?

oooohhhh ok. well let me know if there still a little soft because mine are. but i also havent bled the brakes in the last 2 brake changes which is probably a factor

I finally got to driver my wife's tacoma today and it doesn't feel like the rotors warping. This feels more "grabby" like the ABS comes on and pulses at speeds abvoe 40 mph. I hope this isn't a leaky caliper.

Just PCSed to Holloman AFB a couple weeks ago and bought a 2001 4Runner 4x4. I love it thus far, always wanted one and cant wait to get it on some trails!

Just over 50,000 and 10 years old.

Turned out the only thing wrong was dirty rear brakes which also needed adjustment. The Brembo Rotors and new pads are on the front and I'm really impressed with the Akebono Ceramic pads. They didn't need a bed-in to feel good.

I may consider switching mine to the Akebono pads. I have the AutoZone Gold Duramax ceramic pad and during my research for the tacoma pads I found out that the Autozone pads wear out Rotors pretty fast.

So did a little wheeling this weekend and found out with the new FJ springs and struts that I installed that I get quite a lot of F L E X now!

Thanks for the welcome fellas, already took the bug guard, brush guard, side steps and the sunroof deflector off and the truck looks much better. Went ahead and replaced the fuel filter today, easy R & R.
