No, but funny you should ask. I spent some time researching transmission fluid flushes before my trip. And what I came up is that if you haven't done it in a long time. It may not be a good idea to do it at all. I haven't done it in the three years that I've owned the runner and I have no idea if it was done previously at all. I talked to a transmission mechanic about it and they said it could shock the transmission and cause it to have problems. They basically told me that if I'm doing it for preventive reasons not to do it. That was just one persons opinion tho. So if your in the same boat as me you might want to take it to a transmission specific shop. That way if it does break at least they could fix it. I don't know enough about that stuff to be able to rebuild a transmission so that's what I would do. As for the specific OEM fluid your bes bet would probably be online or there is an amsoil dealer just off Manaul and the freeway. I've always had good luck with there products.

Hi TR, yes I've done some research on the tranny service and more or less came up with the same info. Some places(AAMCO, CCC) simply will not do a power flush at all and I could not find anyone with a t-tech machine. The procedure I've had recommended to me is to drop the pan, clean and refill. At least the tranny shifts just fine for now. And yes, I attempted to buy the OEM ATF online. Camelback will not ship it at all, ToyotaPartsDeal wants to charge $30 for hazardous materials shipping, on top of their regular shipping cost. Amazon does carry it, but at $15.75 a quart, I'll pass. I had already looked at Amsoil and definitely like their product, based on reviews, friends and talking to an older 4x4 guy i ran into lately. However, it's pricey and I was also looking into doing a PS flush, so I wanted to get the OEM Dex III. At any rate, I think I'll end up buying Valvoline Dex III from Autozone or OReilly's. It's cheap by the gallon.

BTW, we'll be up in Ouray the first week of August. We love the area and have visited many times, but this will be the first time we try to get out and drive trails.

Good luck with the transmission flush, that stuff scares me.
As far as the trails go they're all awesome! We probably enjoyed Yankee Boy the most. Super cool views and it was just exciting enough with a stock runner. You can wake it all the way to the top with some decent tire placement. I didn't have a spotter and still made it just fine. Beware tho, the alpine loop is long! It took us over 9 hrs to complete. So if you do that one bring lots of water and food, and maybe one of those little donuts to sit on for your butt. I still enjoyed it but the family was over it after a while. Corkscrew gulch I did buy myself while the Fam went shopping and I had a blast.
I think I'm going to try and do either the FJ summit or the Toyota jamboree next year. I had such a good time in Ouray I was hoping to go back that's why I'm considering the FJ summit. Also it seemed to be well organized. I would love to get a group of us going.

Power steering flush/replacement, not tranny. Agreed, I'm not doing any flushing on the tranny. Man, the alpine loop looks awesome, but it's going to have to wait for a year or two, I have a 6 month old that gets cranky after being in the truck too long! We are looking forward to Yankee Boy though. Might have to take a look at Corkscrew as well.

How does everyone's schedule look for 29 and 30 of this month? I was thinking of going up to the Jemez area. Basically driving up to Holiday Mesa, wheeling around there, camp at Fenton Lake, and wheel around Paliza Canyon the next day. I will be with 1 or 2 3yr olds so you won't be seeing me doing anything too crazy but the girls like to wheel around. Also, I know that there are some decent hot springs up there to go check out if it isn't too crowded. It'd be nice to see that new TE Pete.

Went up there camping with quite a few people a couple weekends back and with just a friend a few weekends before that. Didn't do much wheeling in the area but I would be down to make a trip up there for wheeling and/or camping. With all this rain it's making it pretty gorgeous up there.
