Sweet! Yah it is a few hour run and maybe some more exploring afterwards would make for a full day trip. We can plan the actual meet times as it gets closer. Let's just get a solid date down so we can get as many as possible to join in.

Well that was fast. Sounds like we already have a good start to people showing interest for an Oct 17th run. Let's get it marked on our calendars and make it happen before the weather becomes a factor.

Yeah from what I've heard stock is fine. There's work around for anything difficult and the water crossings aren't very deep.

I probably won't get too crazy because I will most likely have my whole family, including our 6 month old. She already loves off roading though. Lol

That's awesome Pete! My 3 year old loves it too and I take her out with me just about every time I go. My wife is a little nervous when it comes to anything other than pavement so it will be a little bit before I get her and my 10 month old out.

The 17th works for me. Sounds like a good trail run. I've always wanted to check that area out.

Have they opened Monticello Canyon back up yet? Last i heard both ends were locked by the adjoining counties. Might want to dig in and research the trip before yall get out there and have your hearts broken. If it's open again i would be game for meeting up and running it again. There's a great camp spot at the end near the hot springs also, spent a night out there back in the spring before all the controversy kicked off.

So I just wrote a message to the "Friends of he Box" Facebook group to see if the trail was still open. Apparently it was open through parts of the summer until recently in August when they locked the gate again. I will update everyone on what they say back.

Now this trail is in the same area but rated as more difficult. I watched a video of one of the clubs driving it and it looks fun.

Has anyone on here done the Caballo Lake/Palomas Gap trail?

Didn't check here before I started my research but I have basically the same information to report. Last update was from late August that there is now a locked gate preventing access and I also have a message in to friends of monticello on Facebook asking about the status.

Yah the last that I checked before now was back in the beginning of July and I heard it was open then. I hope it has been opened since, if not I'm sure we can find somewhere else to go.

Since it sounds like Oct 17th was a good day for most it might not be bad to have a back up plan in case the box is closed

It looks like Monticello is closed. What other trails do you know of that would be fun? Any ideas?

Dang that's too bad. I'm good with anything also. I know there's tons of great Jemez trails and some old mining/ghost town trails, but haven't been on any of them, just seen pictures and heard stories. Anyone know a good spot in that area?
