What a nice day for a trail ride! Yesterday we ventured up Mt. Taylor since it is close but also because that's where a Tacoma group from Facebook agreed to go. Turns out, we were the only three to show up.
First stop was already more than halfway up Mt Taylor to air down the tires.
Surprisingly, the roads weren't real muddy and there wasn't even much snow considering it just snowed in Grants the day before. I guess the storm missed the mountains.
What looked like an easy peasy trip to the top was stopped short by this.
One big snow drift on the last stretch of road to the top. There's only a little patch of road on the right with a pretty steep drop off. Thawed and re-frozen many times I'm sure, it was rock hard so a shovel wasn't going to make much progress. I thought about driving over it but slipping and tipping towards the canyon below just wasn't my cup of tea.
We all turned around and decided to explore so other less traveled high elevation roads nearby. We were treated with some beautiful back country but also by a lot of downed trees.
After encountering our last down tree, we did at least find a cool spot to eat lunch.
No idea why this sign is there other than the views are pretty good.
After lunch, we decided to head for a little lower elevation and visit an old mine site and a spring that I know about. There's not much evidence left that any mining went on there as the mine shaft has collapsed and many of the old relics that were around have been stolen but the spring is still there.
After visiting here we all decided to head back to Grants to eat and grab a cold one at the Junkyard Brewery.
