New owner with lift ques

I just purchased my first 4runner and I have a couple of ques. It already has a few mods, one being a lift. I know the lift basics having owned several lifted jeeps, both short and long arm. This 4runner has a spacer lift and LC coils but there are a few things that I don't really like about and want to remedy. One is the "rake" it has,not sure of the measurements front to back but I would say the front is at least 1"to1 1/2" lower and I would rather have a more level stance. It has an ARB bumper up front and rear is stock and will b changed in the future because of damage to the factory bumper. And second I want the ride to be a little better. The front seems a bit stiff and the rear soft. It's not terrible but I plan to at least do coils up front to even up the stance and ride. What are y'all's suggestions to a new guy? I've read through several posts, build threads and the lift sticky just wanna hear some ideas. Here is a pic of what I'm starting with. Thanks in advance.

Toytec makes a coilover that you can get an extra .5-1.5" if you get the firm spring. I assume yours are sagging from the bumper.

Nice truck

Hmmm...I may be partial but that is one NICE looking rig :thumb3:.

If you are going to be adding a bumper on the rear, I would START with that due to the increased weight of the bumper you may find the ride changes a little as well as the rake. You could also load down with lots of tools and recovery gear and the soft rear may be just right. I love the toytec lift. Check out my build thread to see a very similar-looking rig to yours.

Welcome to the addiction!

Thanks guys,I definitely would like to get coilovers,I thought about changing to OME front and rear with good shocks. This will be a driver, kid hauler mostly with some weekend trips off road. Full throttle nice,I liked what u did with your hitch. If I can find a decent rear bumper to last me I'm gonna do the same with my hitch.

Looks good so far! OME shocks can be stiff, so watch out. The front end on these is always stiffer than the rear it seems, but Toytec or Icon coilovers would probably make you happy! And the LC coils should settle down with some weight.

I agree with the above. If you plan on adding any kind of weight to the rear with those LC coils they will settle down some and ride differently. Driving with my LC coils and without any rear weight (no bumper or hitch at all) was an experience :lookout:. With my ARB up front I'm running tundra bilstein 5100s with TRD tundra coils on the 2nd perch. It is still raked a little bit but I also have full skids. You could step it up to the third perch with the amount of weight you have and I feel like you would be pretty level. That being said like FR4R said Toytec coilovers are the way to go if you have the cash.

i also agree with every one if u got the money go with toytec or like TCMack said which is what i have the tundra trds there nice and you can adjust them a lil for weight not really for height though im running the 861 i think coils in the rear but i have them for the weight that i have in the back i have full bumpers full size spare and gear so i needed the extra weight capability.
so if it was me i would ether buy a new bumper for the rear or just throw some weight back there and it will change the ride 100% and for the front depending on whats been done id do a diff drop, new coil-overs (trd,OME,or toytec) which ever you want and that would change it up a lot for you, other things you can do but thats a good start

Thanks these are the kind of answers I was looking for. I think I will save my money and go with the toytec coilovers and stick with the LC coils and maybe some new shocks for the rear. I have to replace the rear bumper so I want to get that and tire carrier for a full size spare. Sounds like the LC coils will work well with all that. And BTW, I was wrong I'm actually a little over 2" lower in the front than the rear, finally measured it this afternoon.

TCmac-i know what u mean,i live out in the country and on some of these backroads it can be a little bit of a handful on some of the bigger dips and bumps.

Any of y'all coulda bought it,I saw it was listed on here after I got it. It just happened to be 30 min up the road from me. :D The pic makes it look a little better than it is,the previous owner said it was a 10 footer and he was right. It's been wheeled quite a bit, all the flares are scratched and the rear bumper is toast but I don't mind at all I already love it and will be making some repairs and gettin back up to par with a little time. Now I just gotta sell my jeep.......

Thanks again for all the help guys

Out of curiosity and an idea that might help you out what LC coils do you have? Do you know the wraps or color codes (you might be able to visually see the color codes depending on how old they are)? I'm running 7.5 wrap LC coils currently (color code: double pink grey white) with a CBI hybrid rear w/ swing out, high lift, 33 inch spare and some other weight in the trunk area. I can get you my rear height measurements and if you have the same coils it will give you some idea of how much your rear will tuck down.

His ad said 8.5 wraps but I haven't got under there to check em out.I could check tomorrow after work and see what they are. Thanks for all the help. Are there good pics of your rear bumper and tire carrier on here? I'd like to check it out to see if I like it.

Just checked out your build thread and the pics of the rear bumper, that's exactly what I want. How much did it run if you don't mind me asking?

8.5 wraps with no weight in the back? That's gotta be fun on washboard roads. Knowing that your best bet is definitely going to be toytec coilovers. You'll get about 3-3.5 inches of lift from those depending on where you set them and what weight coil you get. With a rear bumper with tire carrier I imagine you will get about 3.5 inches of lift from the coils you have now. Possibly down to 3 depending on how heavy your bumper ends up being. You'll probably end up being level to a little raked in the back all said and done.

The CBI is pretty sweet I would recommend them without question! As far as the actual hybrid bumper goes this is one of the best pictures I have.

The cool thing about CBI is that you can customize the actual swing out arm. Mine is just the original one, that way I have the option for a can carrier if I want. I know there are guys on here with custom swing arms (BigFishAllDay and Ameining come to mind) so you can look around for some ideas when it comes to that. Oh and it ended up being between 1200-1300 with shipping and powdercoating.

That's definitely a good lookin setup, kinda pricey so I may have to wait awhile before I can manage that and front coilovers. I'll get the suspension right then I'll worry about a bumper. Thnx for all the info
