NEW PRODUCT!!! Driftter ODL Antenna Mount

Got mine yesterday and its great quality.. only problem is that the hole is too big to accept the Firestik hardware??! All the termination studs require 1/2" hole, this one appears to be 5/8" or more... (I haven't actually measured it but the termination stud is much too small and can't find anything larger on the internet. What are you guys using for a termination stud with a Firefly coax and Firestik antenna?

Got mine today. I had to hack it up a pretty good bit and the fit was tight, but it still looks better than any of the other options i found...

What size hole are you guys using as the mounting hole? Its too big for the Firestik mounting hardware. All standard is made for 1/2"...
 
Just sent $ through PayPal for a driver side powdercoated one. Looking forward to running this mount, & glad Driffter was able to work something out with you guys, it flows well for the 3rd gens!
 
everyone should start posting up pictures when they get theirs and get it installed. one close up and one of the full rear view of the T4R. Maybe link a new thread for pics only to this one. I am unpatiently wating for mine in the mail still. something so small can bring a man so much joy. its a crying shame
 
The couple of antennas around the shop have been 3 different sizes. This was the best all around size.. Are all Firesticks 1/2''
 
Mine is an 87. I'll take some pic's of the mounting tomorrow or monday and post them so you can get an idea of what i did.

Basically i cut some of the length off because theres not enough room. I used the portion i cut off as a backing plate to reinforce the thin sheet metal. ran the cable through a notch i cut in the top of the turn signal frame. Looks pretty clean. Only problem i've had is the tailgate ever so slightly bumps the mount on the way up. i'll figure something out for that. it may need to be bent a tiny bit.

One last note... i had to grind a good bit of the powdercoating off to make a good ground to the body. I also would've liked to see a smaller hole. Its easier to drill a hole out larger than figure out a way to fill it. I used nylon washers.

i went and purchased some large grade 8 washers with 1/2" holes... placed one on top and one on bottom... just crank it down real tight and keep two adjustable wrenches with you at all times!!

Sorry I'm OK now. I ended up doing the same thing. I was thinking that you guys were using hardware meant for a 5/8" hole and I was Googling for hours trying to find some. :(
 
Here's some more information about problems with powder coating the mounts, it actually doesn't allow proper grounding to the body.

Also, you guys should decrease the size of the hole to 1/2". Just trying to help everyone out.

We have had conversations with the manufactures of popular Jeep mounts (taillight, tire carrier] regarding their powder coated antenna mounts. Our suggestion … mask around the mounting holes and the antenna stud mounts 1/2” hole before the coating is applied so bare metal is exposed. Alternately, include in the instructions the need for the mount to be grounded to the vehicle AND that the antenna stud or coax cable MUST have access to chassis ground through the mount or the antennas system WILL NOT WORK.

Yeah, definitely going to have to scrape some coating off for the antenna ground and drill a ground wire into the actual mount like my current mount. Damn grounds.

There's at least nice, easily accessible ground for the tail light on both sides.
