New Rhino Rack Rail Mount System

I think you made the right choice since that RTT would take up the whole platform. If I'm not mistaken, you've got the hardware to add a platform if you choose to in the future.

When I began the search for a rack, I was hesitant about drilling two holes in the roof. Now I'm pretty much settled on the Rhino Rack platform with tracks which requires 10 holes.

Yeah, those RTS545 instructions made it easy to install. Can't go wrong with this setup in my opinion.

Dark Lord, any chance you could measure the distance between the roof and the top of the load bar? I have a garage clearance issue with my Thule rack on the factory bars, and am thinking this might allow me to gain a little bit of clearance.

It's approximately four inches.

Has anyone gone with the full length Pioneer Rack? If you check out the Rhino Rack wind fairing it looks like it'll combine the look of the Gobi with the functionality of the slat-type racks. Heavily leaning toward this option if I can confirm that I won't need to drill holes in the 4Runner.
 
There is an option where the pioneer platform attaches to your factory rails using vortex feet. Platform is around 60x49 inches

There aren't many roof racks I know of that don't require drilling. I'm not sure what Pioneer options there are and if they require drilling or not. I would call Rhino Rack USA directly and talk to them. They are very helpful over the phone, and were able to answer all my questions.

I've just finished my switch to Rhino Rack. I chose them for two things. Easy on/off, and wanted the roof to be slim, when I have the racks off.

I bought the Pioneer rack for when I am wheeling w/o my RTT. I then bought the 3 HD bars, for mounting my RTT (yes I know I can mount the RTT to the pioneer rack).

This gives me the versatility I want. I removed the factory rack to install the Rhino Rack track system (love it). I'm still trying things for attachments for things like side lights, shovels. If I had bought the bars longer it would be no problem. Because the RTT goes almost to the end, I need to mount things under the HD bar, which is not what Rhino's attachments are made for.

Time to wait...

Spoke to Rhino Rack today. Indeed, the existing rail system (RLT600) does require drilling. The new system will not require drilling!

From Robert at Rhino Rack:
"people are waiting for the new Rhino-Rack Backbone to be released this late April/ early May. This will be a full Pioneer system with a no drill Rhino-Rack Backbone install."

Additionally, although the Rhino rack does not need a wind fairing - they are also developing one for the Pioneer system. I think this is going to be an awesome set up, aesthetically I've always thought that the slat type racks look a little too boxy for the 4Runner, but the wind fairing would help it flow better. Can't wait until it's released!

Where did you see that the backbone system has been released? I was looking on their site and didn't see anything on it. The only guys I've seen running that rack is the Bold Overland guys.

In case anyone was interested, here are some photos of the RLT600 with an RTT mounted to Vortex bars. I have a three bar setup, but didn't have the extra set of hardware at the time of the photos.

The install required drilling, but the installation instructions were pretty straight forward, and not that complicated. I did the installation myself with some help in an afternoon. The crossbar setup is really nice and versatile. I just keep the cross bars mounted to the RTT so when I'm not using it I lift the whole thing off crossbars included. The mounting points have caps for them when not in use as pictured below:

I also recently purchased an ARB awning, and got the universal awning mount hardware from Rhino Rack. Should have it installed within the next week.
