New Rims - TPMS 101

I have an '07 V6 with 16" rims. I'd like to upgrade them with a set of 18s off a Limited 4runner. What happens with the Tire Pressure Monitoring System if I do? It's a feature I'd really like to keep but the 16s are something I'd really like to lose.

Also if anyone can give me insight into how the TPMS works that would be greatly appreciated. (I think it's wireless and I think it works with the spare tire too, but I'm not sure).

There are alot of wheels that will work with your wireless TPMS. Just ask the tire place if they will work. You spare also has a sensor in it and needs to be checked from time to time.

A member here that use to have a 4th Generation 4Runner Sport, when he bought 18" Limited wheels, the TPMS swapped over w/ no problem.

Here is TSB PG004-06, which says a lot of the same basic things, but also shows you how the TPMS works on other Toyota models and gives a little insight into how the dealer can troubleshoot the system.

Thanks for info guys. So if I'm reading all this right, they all run on the same wireless frequency so they are all interchangable?

I would think that the Toyota sensors are interchangable as far as the radio frequency goes. They don't make different receivers based on different wheels.
