New Shrockworks bumper - what lights?

Just had my new ShrockWorks bumper installed in San Jose CA earlier this week - it rocks! Cost me a bit less than $300 to get it installed (really too busy, was in Seattle last week and wanted it taken care of)

As people have noticed and have commented on, there is a huge wait time (~4 months), but the quality is great!

I had HID's in the fog lights (9006 bulbs IIRC) but they don't fit. I can go with some 4", but would prefer HID's or something REALLY usable.

Any good recommendations for the replacement fog lights? Parking light? Additional driving lights?

Do prefer something I can put the HID's back into...

Anyone with recommendations on the various bits and pieces that are functional and look good with that bumper? E.g. skid plate, winch, etc.

1) they are awesome
2) they look nice and are pretty tough
3) they never seem to last... not sure why though

I see a few members rocking LightForce which I think are B&A (Bad-Ass)

Where have you heard this? Not arguing it, just haven't read it anywhere and I'd like to see what kinda negative reviews they're getting.

You can get basically any lights and convert them to HIDs, but I haven't seen any 4" HIDs out there besides the cheap kragen ones and I'm not sure they'd fit. Maybe check the deltalights.com, I believe they have a good selection of HIDs.

I have PIAA 510's. They fit the space great but the light output isn't the greatest IMO. Also the glass on the PIAA's can crack if they're hot and you decide to hit them with cold water during a river crossing (happened to MysticZ). They're there but I don't use them since the Rigid Industries 40" LED bar takes care of any lighting needs I have.

DeMello sells Acro lights. Cost much less then PIAA's and doesn't have the cracking issue.

Also the glass on the PIAA's can crack if they're hot and you decide to hit them with cold water during a river crossing (happened to MysticZ). BudBuilt - on order. Looks like there's a spacer requirement if you don't have the Shrockworks sliders (but are planning on getting them).

Maybe you know, but on the DeMello site (Demello Offroad) there are two Acro lights, one $55 and the other $65, do you know if there's any difference or would there be a mounting issue on the bumper? I did send them an e-mail but haven't heard back yet (not quite 4 hours, lol).

As for the Rigid LED's (pricey!), how does the range compare to some HID driving lights?

For the fog light holes- use the 510's. They throw amber light an actually work well as fog lights. Do the wire mod so you can turn them on with the headlights off, so if you're in real fog- they work!

use the holes on top to run off-road lights. I had PIAA's but switched to a Rigid SR20. You could go 30" bar on top, but it covers up the hole for the winch remote.

The PIAA's do look like the best option for fog lights. Pricy fog lights, but I do central valley CA during the winter (large pile ups) and fog lights are going to be almost a necessity. Will HID bulbs fit? Not sure about the depth...

As for driving, I think that the rigid design is the best, so going with that. BUT I'm thinking I like the design... can do with a better price.

Shop around- Rigid can be found cheaper. Here's that same E20 bar for $509! I have no idea if they are a good vendor or not, shop around.

I went with the SR20 (single row) because it looks more streamlined, but has less light output.

Check wcpdiesel.com, they have a "Make us an offer" thing that reduces the price by a lot.

I got my Dually D2 for $150 shipped vs. $200+shipping everywhere else.

I think the 20" bar is almost $200 cheaper than rigid there.

edit- the 20" SR like Zimm has is $380 there.

Here's what I went with based upon the feedback I have received....

PIAA 510 fog lights
20" LED light bar

I directly wired the PIAA's to the existing fog light wiring. Had some spare connectors (HID setup previously) and canabalized the connectors. What's interesting was that when I first was testing the connector with the light on the ground, no problem. But when I mounted it I started blowing the fog light fuse (after installing both in the bumper, DOH). Even if I only had one wired, the 15 fog light fuse would blow. Well, reversed the connectors and then things worked fine. Ran out of 15 amp fuses (only had four and pop, pop, pop) but once I figured out it was the connection and switched it, both PIAA's drew less than 10 amps total ... And it's a much cleaner install.

Couldn't make myself splurge for the Rigids, even at some discounted prices. Went with the DDM tuning 20" at $320 instead. Found out that there are 3-4 main types of LED lightbars out there with different quality of builds. Bottom shelf are the Hanma using Epistar LEDs, top shelf are the Rigids. In the middle are modified reflectors (Alen LED) and Osram LEDs (DDM tuning). Already had a set f driving lights wired up 10-15 amp per circuit IIRC, so it was an easy install...

Except I didn't want to drill the bumper. So off to the Home Depot for some longer L brackets in the builders section ($2.87 x 2) to use the existing holes.

Yeah, super bright.

Was at Harbor Freight today (more 15 amp fuses and lock washers) and saw the Badlands 12000# hitch -- $299. Holy crap. Loads cheaper than the Warn 9500XP. Curious about any horror stories? $300... Is very tempting...

I wouldn't trust a harbor freight anything. You're better off taking that $299 and save up more, putting it towards a real winch. You can find a bare bones warn 8000 on sale for pretty cheap. Or if money is tight, buy a used one- most (like mine) hardly ever get used.

If money is tight look at the Engo series of winches. I ran one on my land rover with great results. Used the 9000 series with synthetic line. Pulled my ass out many of time. Worked flawless. Plus with the synthetic line it was light.

Winch: Pulled the trigger on the Harbor Freight one for $299, plus a 2 year warranty for an extra $50.

No, money really isn't an issue - I do like seeing what is out that that works (value basically), so don't mind taking a chance on things. Worst case, I'm out $350 and then I'm off to a $1200 Warn 9500XP

I have the ability to goof around, screw around and recover from my mistakes - so if someone in a bit worse position can gain something from my experience, great. Again, only $350

But it's a nice looking winch, 100' of 3/8" cable and pretty much everything looks solid. Going to need to clock the lever and change out the steel cable with some nice Amsteel. One thing I do notice is that it doesn't have the "socket extension and cap" which would allow me to mount the remote simply by plugging it into the bumper. May just go wireless for the heck of it.

As for the LED light...

OMFG. No, not OMG, or holy-sheet, but literally OMFG.

I have HID's, big improvement over stock. I have the PIAA's, not bad, roughly what I remember stock being, but not HID's. I have HIR's for the high beams (soooo nice).

But the LEDs... OMFG. They make my HIR's look stock. In fact, when I shut off the LED and go back to normal HID's, it's almost like the difference from HIR's w/ HID's to the stock fog lights. That big of a difference.

Anyone who is looking for some serious driving lights (and I've done the 100W in Hella's, the 100W in fogs, the HID's and HIR's as I stated), fog light mod, etc. and this is the biggest improvement - for $320.

Going to see if I can break out the regular camera and get some pictures with a fixed aperture and shutter speed so people can see an actual comparison.
