New Speakers or Subwoofers/Amplifier

Hey Guys,

I have a 2008 4Runner SR5 base. I have been wanting to get a better bass effect from the speakers.

I dont want to spend too much on it as I have plenty of other mods in mind. I was thinking a max budget of 200 bucks incl labor.

Do I just get the bazooka 8in amp/subwoofer and hook it up and that will make it sound better? I have the factory stereo system.

Any ideas will help!

New Head + Sub

For a full set up its going to be hard to come all in under $200 but here is what I did and I am very happy with it:

I wanted to upgrade the OEM headunit to begin with so I replaced it with a JVC double din unit (which has an internal amp). At that point, the OEM speakers actually became quite good with the extra power so I kept them as is. Then I added a friend's twin MTX 5500 subs w/ box w/ amp he was trying to sell since his new car didn't have enough space (scored a sweet deal!).

All in all I spent about $580 ($400 for the head + $150 for the MTX subs/amp/box + $30 for wiring kit).

My recommendation is just to start with a new headunit (plenty you can get for $200 and under) as that alone will make a world of difference. You can always add a sub/amp down the road.
 
Oh by the way, all installs were done by myself to save dough. Plenty of good info on the forums to install a new head or a sub.
 
wow...does that have an inbuilt amp or do I need one? Also how do I prevent it from sliding....any other options?

I actually just did a bazooka tube and 500 watt amp, also a newer alpine head unit because the line our converter I bought wouldn't work, and I am more than pleased. The stock non JBL system plus my setup with 180k on it is very loud and clear. Best part is I've got about 200 (50 amp JL500, 80 10" bazooka, 70 used alpine with bluetooth) .

Super clear on anything I listen to.
 
For that low of a budget, your best bet is to get a powered sub, if you want to throw more money at it, get a stock JBL enclosure and put an 8" sub in with an amp
 
Best bang for your buck will be a new head unit. Aftermarket HU amps are more powerful, and will make your stock speakers sound wayyyyy better. Plus you can get the option to plug in your phone with either an aux input or stream thru bluetooth.

Also, found a deal on amazon last year, MTX self powered 12" sub for $50. Those sort of deals pop up all the time. easy to wire in, especially with an aftermarket HU
