New 4Runner owner here. I've been building Honda's and Toyota cars for the past 20 years. Really looking forward to switching things up and getting more into off-road/overlanding. Recently purchased a 2016 Trail edition. So far I'm in love and can't wait to start building it.

Light Indicator

Hi sorry just posting here bc i need a quick answer.
I have had many 4th gens and looking at buying my first (used) 5th gen that's for sale near me.

When I switched from H2H to H4H, what color should the light be?
The 4th gen would blink amber then turn green when engaged. This one stays stays a solid amber but it does drive like in 4wd.

Is this broken, or working as designed.

I believe you need like 10-15ish posts to make a thread. Since this is a semi-common issue, I would try and do some searching first before you make a full thread on it. Then you can leave a comment on a semi newish post, check if the op is still active, and include some descriptive information about your issue.

The best way to get your post count up is to leave meaningful comments. Instead of just writing "head gasket" without context on several posts, post in a "what did you do with your t4r today" thread and say you were trouble shooting and diagnosing some head gasket issues. Maybe with a pic of your reservoir with decreasing level over a few miles, or some junk under the radiator cap to give people some better idea of your symptoms. At the very least, try and include a picture of the 4runner as a whole, pictures will show that you care. Also you may have an issue that you have already solved, sharing this can help others and will get the post count up. The forum is cyclical, the more you can help others, the more they will help you.

To answer your head gasket question, I have heard that parts are around $500 for people that do it themselves and it think the dealership bills for 22 hours of labor. So probably 4-5k is a bit high, I would think something in the 3k ballpark is about what people are paying.

New to the forum. Working on that post minimum haha. We have a 2016 Trail as well and we love ours too. Congrats on the new rig!
