New to me 4Runner.

Thanks to all of the replies on here from previous questions of mine, I came across this truck and ended up buying it yesterday morning. Stoked on it!

2000 Limited with 95,000 miles. Salvage title (tree branch fell on roof). Was inspected at a body shop and mechanic, all was put back together properly, no mechanical issues. Carfax added up, always maintained at Toyota dealer. Great shape inside and out, going to be an awesome camping car. Picked it up for $3,700. Was skeptical of ever buying a salvaged car but since it checked out and I plan on keeping for good, & no accidents, I'm not worried about ever having to resell it.

Blacked the rims today and removed the running boards yesterday. Coming from a 2009 BMW 3 series, so this is a change in a GOOD way! Glad to join! :naughty:

here's a better pic from earlier today.

looking to black the area around the license plate out. no idea why it's white. would plasti-dip be sufficient or will that look like shyt? headed to Yosemite this weekend with a friend. should be good :cheers:

Some (maybe all?) Sport Edition 4Runners had body colored plate trim, but I'm pretty sure none of the white ones did so I'd guess that was painted when the roof was repaired.

I tried plasti-dipping mine because it was all cracked and faded and I didn't care for it. I ended up buying a new one. Install is a little bit of a pain in the ass because you have to take the trim panel off and go at it from the inside, but not more than a couple of hours work.

You can snag them new and used on eBay. I think the new one cost me about $150.

ya it was definitely repainted. I'm going to see how the plasti dip goes. will put painters tape around the other areas and see. don't really want to drop $150 when the timing belt is lingering

edit - $56 isn't bad for that. thanks for the link!
 
FWIW to you OP I have a 1999 limited white and that piece is black.

Editing to add: but looking at yours I actually like the white much better TBH. It looks a lot cleaner.

google how to plastidip trim/plastic......lots of utube videos on this. Key is getting the surface correctly prepped and thickness of first three coats. You will want some overlap and thick enough to peel excess after using a toothpick to break the dip. Fonzie's got a ton of how to videos. I have done rims and also my original grill and this year I did the black front bumper trim which came out awesome. Use 7+ coats and it will last. One cavet, wd40 and Krown rust control will lift it quickly if not washed off almost immediately.

No problem. As far as the timing belt goes, I'd put it on the list of things to do in the next 6 months, but I wouldn't be overly worried about it. They're known to last a LOT longer than 100k. I'm fairly certain mine still had the original on it at 200k, because it also still had the original plugs in it. :shocked:

right on! thanks, I will. think im selling my other car so ill have some money once that's out. probably do it then.

as for the plasti dip, I did the rims yesterday with it. have done it a few other times on different cars and I just put a bunch of coats on, usually turns out alright. on this truck not too worried about appearance. I don't mind the white, think black looks a little better. I'll have to google it and compare. :thumb3:
 
nice find!! love the low miles... is that a 2wd? def add a trans cooler when you get the chance... just to help cooling.

unfortunately yes! I wanted a 4x4 but couldn't pass this up. the miles and price (3700) was too good. I had a wrangler in high school and used 4x4 once in two years in the desert. be cool to have but I don't "need" it. just wanted a car to sleep in for camping. some places are always full and being able to sleep in the car was my main reason for buying one of these

don't know what a trans cooler is. I'll look it up. open to any suggestions to make this thing last though!
