New To Me 4Runner

Well I was admittedly inclined to buy a 4Runner since I have always liked them however buying one with 163,000 on the odometer was mostly due to the posts I have read on this board. Still have a bit of studying to do to get up to speed on the vehicle. It is a 96' SR5 4x4 3.4L. It does not have a rear locker. Well got to run.

When i bought my 4runner it had 160,00+ miles on it. It has the 3.4 with an automatic transmission. I took it for a test drive and it ran absolutley fine with no problems. The truck had just one owner and it had every maintenence record saved. Also, My 4runner did not come with a rear locking diff just 4wd, and i live in new england so the 4wd alone has gotten me out of sticky situations without any struggle. And now im up to 180,000+ miles and still going strong. Do your homework and you will find these trucks will go forever with the right attention and care.

I bought my '97 4x4 SR5 with 184K miles for $4500, so don't let the milage scare you. I am up to 200K mile, no problems... Might be selling it to get a RAV4 for my wife.

Wow thanks for the warm welcome! So far so good with the truck. I am in Washington state right now and have to get her ready for a trip to Connecticut. Hopefully that goes well. I am going to put it in the garage and go through a few things (i.e. timing belt insp, brakes, etc,etc). I am sure I will be referencing any expertise/experience in the upcoming weeks.

Well I sold the '96 I bought back in March 08 and have been 4Runnerless for the past six months. I found a 2001 with 105K on the clock. It is in great condition. I pick it up on Tuesday. I am pretty stoked. It was well taken care of.....

No she ran great. It probably needed some front end work but other than that it had 179,000 and ran solid... no oil use, good compression, etc, etc. The minute it left the drive I kind of regretted it but I wanted to get a few other things paid for...

Well I've had my 4Runner in the drive for about a week now and had a chance to go through it. Had to replace the battery post clamp due to excessive corrosion. No battery acid present. I love the way Toyota thinks about the little things. I replaced a $12.50 post clamp instead of a $150(guessing at the price) battery cable or having to cut and splice a generic battery post clamp.
