New to Toyotas, have questions...

Hey guys, just picked an 89 4runner in good shape with the V6 and 5 speed. it has 126K on it and I just wanted to know if there is anything I should do this thing to make sure it lives a healthy long life or is there anything I should watch out for. Are there any mods I should do right off the bat? I want to turn this thing into a woods truck so I will be picking all of your brains about that later. I have only had Chevy trucks and I am trying to learn as much about this beauty as possible. Thanks alot. Andy

First thing I would do is replace all the fluids - engine oil, tranny, t-case and diffs, coolant. Then give it a tune up.

Good idea. Ill have to do that soon. I heard that some of the older V6's had head gasket issues. Is this true? Is there anything else I should look closely at?

Yep it is. What i've heard is the way the exaust is designed the passenger side head gasket can get to hot and that causes it to fail.

Freeing up the exaust is always a good idea

Yeah, take the VIN to the dealer and see if the HG recall has been done on it.
