New Yota, Old Honda

Hey all. Just picked up a 98 4 Runner, this is my first Toyota out of a total of 28 cars i've owned.

My background is in the DSM world, then Honda, then Mazda and now to Toyotas! Self-taught mechanic with a mentor-ship from an old school Honda ASE Master Tech for about a year. My little Miata wasn't cutting it in the Colorado winters so I thought i'd get a solid 4x4. Lived with a guy who had a 97 for a couple years, did a fair amount of work on that one and sold it for him. Also had a couple clients who had 4 runners that were regular customers at my shop.

Thought i'd say hello and share a bit bout my car history. I'm getting pretty stoked to clean this new whip up and make her stand out!

The 3rd gen is a great choice.

28 cars! wow. You must love the Craigslist buy and sell section -- Just curious, what is DSM? I've seen the term a few times now.

I'm down in Denver here and there. Love how it's blowing up, getting sick of living in the Boulder bubble.

DSM stands for Diamond Star Motors. It was a joint venture between Mitsubishi and Eagle/Plymouth in the 90s. They produced the Eclipse/Talon/Laser together. Sadly a lot of them are beat up these days being so old and poorly modded. They also have a bad reputation due to kids putting huge turbos on them without supporting mods and blowing the motors. But if you can find a clean AWD 2nd gen it is a great turbo platform to make solid power for little $$$. Also a ton of fun in our snowy months.

Thanks guys. Just picked it up last night from my buddy. Gonna wash it up, detail it and put the OEM rims back on then get some pictures up.

Few details about the ride:
1998 SR5 with 161k on the clock
ARB Front Bumper with Winch
2" Lift
Has mudder tires on it
Emerald Pearl Paint
5spd of course
Just had the lower control arm, steering rack, brakes and ball joints replaced before I got it.

Price: $2500. Deal of the year for sure.
