Ok, so I went to my local toyota dealership. I want to replace my power steering fluid. I think I have the steps to do this (i'm sure it will be messy my first time).
However, I can not get a solid answer on such a simple damn thing. What freaking fluid to use?
Guy at toyota at the parts counter really didn't know. He put 1 bottle up of power steering fluid. i said the prior guy said it was toyota world standard that i needed. he goes and appears several min later and says a tech says I need to use this. so he sells me a black bottle of ATF and the back of the bottle says formulated to replace dexron II dexron III.
The cap on my car says to use Dexron II or Dexron III.
I called another dealership to make sure they had some more bottles. The guy tells me to use power steering fluid and not ATF. Tells me that ATF will cause the pump to whine. He also says that what was placed into the car was a jap fluid. Current color appears to have a brown/yellow hue.
Other forums and this one suggest to only use ATF.
I'm freaking confused and appears that if I took my car one place then it might get different fluids.
I would appreciate any assistance and help/direction.
