No more lame azz throttle response!!!

I shouldnt be that way though. Ive own a 2005 4runner 140k miles only issue is gas cap needed replacing. Also a 2012 altima 160k miles no major issues other than slight piston slap which goes away when warmed up.

My daughter has a 2005 4 cyl Altima. At 100k the headgasket needed replaced. 120K now and that has been the only repair since new other than filters and brake pads and rotors which are normal maintaence.

My coworker is big into bmw he trades them in every 100k. He tells me he dont want to deal with the headaches and money it will cost to repair it once it starts breaking. His 2004 x5 only one he kept over 100k, went through one transmission, water pipe, radiator leaking, rear diff failed.

How many miles does your x5 have?

I am ONLY commenting regarding how it drives...... can't beat the durability of our 4Runner.

Ok, I have a 15 4Runner, a X5, and a 3rd gen 97 4R @ 270K.

The X5 will never go to where my 3rd gen is, that's the reason I got another 4Runner.

The BMW is fun and great pleasure to drive, and one should ONLY keep it while it is still under some sort of warranty..... so 7yrs/100K miles sounds about right where the end of the relationship should be.

What the ECM is really "learning" is slight variances in how a customer drives to better shift the transmission into gear (these are very minor and probably not noticeable from a "seat of the pants" scale normally, but from an efficiency stand-point they matter") as well as fuel trim, timing, and so on to keep the engine running optimally within desired parameters (too much or too little fuel would trigger a DTC for fuel trim.)

Even if the ECM learned to respond to the driver, it would have to drop all the settings when the vehicle turned off. Otherwise, any vehicle with more than one driver would be constantly confused and you'd end up with settings that weren't optimal for anyone (unless it was only driven by twins, I guess). Speech recognition systems have a similar problem so every user has their own profile with what the AI has learned about their habits. I expect that Entune will have a profile option eventually that extends beyond phone contacts & includes speech recognition, ECM, dash brightness, wiper, seat and mirror adjustments.

Here it is. But Laurie has the car till late tonite and I'm going to a bachelor party in a limo. Looks like a one minute install I'll do tomorrow.

Hi man, if you want to see if you 4Runner has the $hit on power, put it on sport mode in p2 or p3 and you will see how it does. Take it to 40 MP/H then 60 MP/H

If it does not fit your liking then by all means go try new gadgets to make you feel better. My .2cents :)

Ok are you ready for my simple opinion after testing in the city and mountain driving? If 300 bucks is a lot of money to you forget about it because it is not groundshaking. As I suspected in town its not needed but in mountain driving I really like it. Actually I like it in town but in the green mode. The red mode is too twitchy. No lame ass throttle is a perfect description. You breathe on the gas pedal and it gets with it. If you dont buy one your not missing out on alot. I wont send it back because I have the 300 to spend and its fun.

At elevation your truck isn't getting as much of the oxygen it needs to burn fuel, not sure what a throttle reprogram will do to fix that.

8k is noticeable and 10k is downright depressing.

Also, a squirrely, aggressive throttle in the mountains is the last thing I'd want.

Digging up an old thread as I just heard about the Pedal Commander. Couldn't find much on the T4R page other than this thread and an old group buy thread.

What I've seen so far is a whole lotta good (especially from the Taco crowd) and just a couple of bads.

Curious as to updated T4R experiences.

I installed the Pedal Commander last week, and really like the throttle response. I have not tried all of the settings yet, but am happy on the city + 3 setting so far.

I installed mine couple weeks ago and I love it.
This is how the truck should have came from the factory!
I'm on City +4. I'm a little confused about the settings. Would Sport mean better passing on the highway vs City's better take off acceleration?
Reason I ask is because City doesn't seem to make a difference when going from 55mph to 70mph.

Ordered the Sprint Booster on Friday. Should be here on Thursday. Can't wait to see what all the hype is about.

If I installed one, I'd leave it in the "OFF" position..

Seems to be an answer to a question that was never asked..

I just bought and installed one...drove around for a bit. I really like it.

I played around with city and sport modes. City plus 3 or 4 or sport make it more drivable IMO.

Coming off an X5, the spongy and not very responsive stock pedal feel on the 4runner is really noticeable. With this Pedal Commander box, it's a completely different experience for street driving.

Offroad, I'll turn it off.

I presume gas mileage will suffer however, so I'll be watching that.

So as long as it doesn't cause any problems or kill my gas mileage (which already isn't anything to write home about) I'll be happy with the $300 spent over the life of this vehicle.

Jumping in on this old thread. Looking at the Pedal Commander. Anyone ever used the Pedalbox? It’s made by a German company but looks to do something similar. It’d go on an 5th Gen.

SPRINTBOOSTER THROTTLE ENHANCER

WHAT'S IN THE BOX

THE FUN SWITCH

Just installed this today in my 4Runner, took about ten min tops to install. Your probably asking yourself what the heck is it? It's the Sprintbooster Throttle Enhancer.

Basically it remaps the stock throttle to more aggressive settings. There are three settings to choose from, completely off, sport, and race. It installs in between the factory wiring to the gas pedal and the pedal itself. Install is super easy. Unbolt the gas pedal from the floor using a 10mm socket. Next use a small flathead screwdriver to push in the release on the factory wiring harness clip and unplug it from the gas pedal. Plug the switch cord into the Sprintbooster. Next plug one end of the Sprintbooster into the factory harness and the other the gas pedal. Position the gas pedal and the wiring from the Sprintbooster to where you want it and then bolt the pedal to the floor. Your done!!!

I completely bypassed the sport setting and went to race. Whoo Daddy!!! This is the way it should have come from the factory!!! Feels like I gained a bunch of horsepower when in reality the Sprintbooster adds zero power. It simply remaps the throttle for much better response. Check out their website for all the technical stuff.

So what are the cons to this. The only one in my opinion is it's not cheap and it doesn't actually increase the horsepower. Some may have a problem spending the $299.99 price for zero HP but let me tell you it vastly improves the drivability and fun factor of the truck. Look around and you may be able to find a better deal.

It's nice that it has different settings and I like that you can turn it off completely. This comes in handy in slippery conditions, when your wheeling offroad, and if your taking it in for service.

To be fair I've had one of these installed on my Z06 for several years now so I knew what to expect. I just didn't know if they made one for the 15 4Runner (actually you need to buy the one for the 2014 but it works fine on the 2015). When I found out they did it was a no brainer for me. Now my truck runs the way I want it to and no more weak sauce response!!!!

Does it disengage in reverse? Would hate to give it a little gas and go flying through the garage door.
