No more third row seats on 2015s?

You may want to try building an SR5 or Limited if you want the third row...
I'm in your same boat....why doesn't the trail offer this? Toyota could have sucked more money out of me if it was an option I would have got the trail.
Where are you getting this stat from?

I made it up. Real stat: For every 1000 4runners sold, only 70 are TE's on average. From reading this forum for the last four years very few complain about not having third row in the TE. With being an enthusiast's forum there are an inordinate amount of TE's represented and there still are not many complain about it.

I was curious about 3rd row when I bought mine. I definitely don't need one.
Mine has the slider of which I think they could have designed a whole heck of a lot better, could have had nice storage compartment underneath it.
Regardless I would have liked leather and seat heaters. Kinda seemed odd not to have seat heaters.
In this day and age you think you would be able to order one spec exactly the way you want it from the factory/port installed/whatever.

hmmm, let me see. the whole point of the TE and TEp is to be on the trails/offroad/back country.
for the intended purpose, your not going to haul 7 people when your on the trails.
and the TE's come with a sliding tray, so you can slide your gear out to get to it easily.
if you want to haul people get a LE w/ 3rd row or if you cant afford a LE get a SR5 w/ 3rd row. Toyota covers 99% of the scenarios that people want. those 1% which are probably on this forums are not what Toyota caters to.

I considered getting the 3rd row, however, when I ran the resale numbers via Appraise a Used Car at Edmunds.com, this $1300 option only returns $400 in resale :-( I really thought it would've been more. For that reason, I passed. Too much of a hit for me...
Plus, I wanted the leather and push start.

Of course you are not alone. Problem is you unfortunately are part of a fraction of a percent that wants something. No business case. Same as those guys who want a vinyl floor and a manual transmission 4runners. Not gonna happen. Remember that while here you will get a few people who think like you this is a small fraction and cross section of buyers.

As usual, I agree with you whole heartedly. However, I wonder how much trouble it really would have been to add features of one 4Runner to another. It's not as if there would be an entire redesign in the tooling or building process. Just put a locker in my LE from the factory.

They did that with the 4th gen and the difference between trim levels became very minor, which I think from Toyota's perspective made it harder for customers to justify purchasing higher trim levels over built SR5's.
The 5th gens have done a good job at having more identity between trim levels, which I assume is intentional on Toyota's part.
if I could get a Trail Premium w/3rd row I'd be at the dealer today! 3rd row gets a bad wrap but they have come in handy. Iwouldnt want to ride in them for more than about 50 miles BUT I have them when I need them. Sure you lose some cargo space BUT thats what a roof rack is for
