No power at all!

I arrived home shutting off the truck, 2 minutes later I intended to move the truck but when I turned the key there was no power at all to any part of the truck. I waited another few minutes and and the truck started up as normal. Whats going on?

Bad connection to ground or battery terminals? Check for corrosion.

I just ran into this with my 98.

Check the white wire that leads off the battery into the fuse box. If it was running fine, you were getting power off your alternator just fine. If it's only electrically-dead when the engine is off, good chance that's a fault in the wires between battery and fusebox.

In my case, it was an internal break in that wire, right at the lug. Wiggling that wire with the headlights turned on made it easy to find the fault.

I know it’s old but what was it? I’m having a similar problem with no electricity at all but battery is good and all connections on new. I used a multimeter to check the ground as well and seems good. I’ve been having an intermittent issue of start and no start clicks, I figured battery connections or starter. I ended up replacing the connections and cleaning up the posts and it was starting perfectly for like a week. Now it has no power to anything, with or with out key. Battery is full, connections are tight and new. I don’t know about the white wire that goes to the fuse box being an issue but what other ideas does anyone have?

If the dash lights up but all you get is a 'click' then it's a bad starter. The starter contacts and plunger can be replaced as the starter just has a case that opens up and it's a few bolts inside. Getting the starter out is another story though. If the dash does not light up at all then it's usually a ground issue. There's the battery ground, diagnostic port in the engine to plenum ground, and the passenger's side cylinder head to firewall ground (on the back of the engine). Make sure all 3 are cleaned up. There's also a ground from the ECU to the body inside but that one is hard to get to. I think it's behind the passenger's side kick panel.
