No power steering

So I went out mudding a few weeks ago and ever since then I have no power steering. The only time I really notice it (need to hands to turn) is when I turn sharp or backing up. The mechanic, or service writer said that I need a new pump, pulley, and rack. I told him that I would just do it myself since they quoted me a little over $2500 for parts and labor. He then told me to start with the pump because it has no pressure.

I power washed the under carriage and didn't see any rocks or mud. Any thoughts on what it could be?

More info needed... Pics of rack and pump? Did you check lines? Any leaks? Fluid low? Did a tech look at it because it sounds like someone is guessing.

Hmm, that is peculiar...

First thing is first, need some additional information;

-Fluid Level
-Fluid Condition
-Visual inspection of the Components (pump, lines, rack) for leaks and/or damage

As for possible steps to repair it? A Pump, Rack and possibly new lines is not too far out. This is dependent on a couple things;

-If the fluid is contaminated from a leaking rack/line/pump and/or other debris.
-If the power steering pump and/or rack has failed and sent shavings/debris circulating in the system.

It's either the pump or the rack, check the pump to see if it sized. How long after the mudding did it stop working?

Never got around to taken any pics, sorry....

The PS level was very low, I checked this right after I noticed the issue.
Visual inspection looked good on both components, also on the pulley, lines, belts, etc....

I didn't notice not having any PS as soon as I pulled around and starting backing into my garage. My buddy lives 30 mins away, that's where we were mudding.

I ended up replacing the PS pump earlier today. No real change, guess I'll be replacing the rack next Wednesday....
