Noise from tranny?

Hello,

I've got a '97 5VZ-FE*3.4L with 234K miles on it. Last year the tranny started making grinding noises so I took it in to the local shop where $3000 I got it rebuilt.

Friday, 1 year to the date it was repaired, I started hearing a tinny rattling sound on accelerate and decel with a deep rumbling/thrumming sound on decel. Never in neutral or wit turning. Shifts through all gears w no problem. No powers loss

I have a feeling it's the tranny again. Any ideas? How can I pinpoint it?

Could be a bad u-joint. Get under the rig, grab the rear driveshaft near the rear u-joint and push and pull and different directions to see if there's any play. Do the same with the front double cardan joint.

I took the 4Runner to two places. First guy said it needed a tune up w new plugs, wires, throttle body cleaning and PCV valve. I did all that myself w no improvement. Second guy put it on the lift and said the u joint was solid but the tranny needed replacing. Quoted me $2500

I took it to the tranny place who rebuilt the tyranny 1 year ago and they said it was the u joints.

$150 later with new u joints and no more vibration!!!
