Nokian Outpost nAT or Wildpeak AT4W?

I was all set on getting a set of Wildpeak AT4W to replace my AT3W's... until I went out in the snow last week and realized how awful my AT3Ws are in the snow. I realize that they're old, but they still seemed pretty pathetic.

FWIW, I do mostly on-road driving, but there's a lot of rain up here in Portland. And I do want to be able to go out in the snow occasionally, and not feel like everyone can run circles around me, like they can now.

I read a lot of reviews praising the Nokian Outpost nAT's performance, not just in snow but also in wet and all around driving. So I'm wondering if that would be a good choice for me?

I have no idea about the quality/performance of nokian's auto tires, but back when I raced down hill Mt bikes. I ran the snot out of their tires and I loved them! Great quality, and sidewall protection (before tubeless).

I'd imagine they would be good in the snow. From what I have seen it looks good. Reviews are raving too. I'd maybe be a bit concerned about noise as the shoulder blocks don't vary in size to much.

The at4w's also look good, has the added bead fins (what ever that pattern is called). It's there to help dissipate heat supposedly. Tread pattern looks good, shoulder treads vary more so maybe a bit quieter.

Other then that I don't think you can go wrong with either one. Oh also keep in mind serviceability, if you ever have a non-repairable situation for the tire, how many places will carry that tire?

What size and load rating are you thinking of?

Thanks for the feedback, it's consistent with what I'm finding online - lots of raving reviews about the Nokians, especially in snow (but not only in snow). I think the Wildpeaks look a little sharper, but I'd take good grip on snow and ice over looks (don't ask me how a Ram truck pulled me out of a snow bank last week, shame of shames ).

Interesting point about availability, I agree that the Wildpeaks would likely be easier to find in an emergency. I'll have to give that aspect some thought. But for now I'm still leaning towards the Nokians.

Nokians are known for having some of the best winter tires so i'm sure those nAT's would be great in the snow. I read the reviews and it looks like a great tire. I'd also lean towards them.

Nokians are known for having some of the best winter tires so i'm sure those nAT's would be great in the snow. I read the reviews and it looks like a great tire. I'd also lean towards them.

Thanks - I ordered a set of Nokians for Discount Tire, will get them installed in early March. I'll post back then about my first impressions.
