Noob Daystar question (help me not get ripped off)

I appreciate the help. The 4R is over at High Tech having the DS installed today, Scott is doing the work, I requested pics so hopefully I can post some later this week.

Now what about SCS rims? I am liking the Stealth 6 in matte black.

I've never owned a Toyota until this one. But I've done engine swaps on my buddy's Tacoma, and I've done everything from coil spacer lifts to complete axle and spring swaps with both coils and leafs on Jeeps and pickup trucks, so I do have a lot of experience with this. Also, my father is a 35+ year career master mechanic. The two of us spent HOURS on the small lift we put on this 4Runner. It was a total PITA. I do not agree at all with those who say this is a 30 minute job in the driveway. Hell, it usually takes a couple hours just to get all the rusty, frozen nuts and bolts off one of these jap trucks when you get started. Doing a lift on one of these is a long process and takes some time. So in my opinion, the price he was quoted for parts, labor, and alignment total is really not a bad price. It's a lot of money, but for what he's getting the price is fair.

OP...hope you are very happy with the results. I am real happy with how mine turned out...just wish I'd have left the 5100s on the 2.5 setting.

Why will that happen? When you raise the lower spring perch on the 5100 to raise the vehicle height, don't you precompress the spring and limit up travel? I guess top out spacers limit travel too.

The issue is with the amount of downtravel. When you use the spring perch, you are not changing the overall length of the shock. When you add a topout spacer such as the Daystar, it pushes the whole assembly down so when the shock is at full extension it puts the CVs at greater angles.

Extended travel coilovers are only 1" longer than the standard travel. This 1" requires aftermarket UCAs because it allow the range of motion to exceed what the factory UCAs can handle. With the Daystar spacer plus the 5100s (which are already longer than stock), your adding an additional 1"-1.5" length to the shock.

Hopefully that makes sense. You may want to search for everextension with spacer lifts. It's been discussed quite a bit in years past, and is even possible with large topout spacers and stock shocks.

OK, now they called and the lower control arm bolt "seized".

Thoughts?

Additional $305 to fix and I have to wait an additional day for it to ship from Baltimore which is less than an hour away.

I pushed back on the price and now I have no way to get home tonight. My wife has to be home early to get the kids to back to school night, I was supposed to meet them there.
