Noob, Loyal Lexus guy getting a 4Runner.

So after several years and 5 various models of Lexuses...I'm about to get a 4Runner.

I'm looking at 07's and 08's. Torn between the V8 and the V6 models. I know that the entire stereo system will be gutted and replaced. After having Mark Levinson, Navi, Hands free and Sirius/XM for so long. I don't think I can ever go with out.

I'm one of the senior mods over at Clublexus.com. So I hopefully wont get all "full on noob" here. If I've ever banned, or blasted anyone here over there. Now is your revenge.

Time to read page after page and figure out what I'm going to get by Monday. Any suggestions appreciated.

Some of the past rides.

2007 Lexus GS450h (Hybrid, but not in the sense that it saves gas. 0-60 just over 5sec, 1/4mile in a few ticks over 13. Not bad for a 4600lb sedan)

2002 Lexus GS300 SD (Dropped, 18's, LSD from a Supra TT, Minor mods)

1997 Lexus SC300 2 tone interior.

Lol the 4runner is a great vehicle, IMO you should get a 3rd gen unless you want the newer style, nice cars, btw man. they look slick. thinking about getting an LS400.

Welcome to the forum!

Get a V8! I'm happy that I got an SR5 with V8 and 4WD with nothing else. I was not interested in paying for anything that I knew wouldn't be there forever like JBL system, premium wheels, leather, X-REAS, etc. I like to mod. You might be the same.

Good luck on your search! Look forward to seeing what you get and do on the forums! Again, welcome!

Thanks.

Just out of curiosity. Why the V8. 2UZ's are the basis for the 2 gen LS430, 2 gen GS430, and the GX's. The V6 looks to be the basis for the the IS350, GS350 bocks.. Those put out 300hp in the 3.5 flavor. I figure the heads and cylinders are giveing the 4.0 the extra .5litres.

The power is the same, torque of course is higher. Just wondering what makes the V8 the one to get.

A V8 limited is what I drove last night.

Thanks.

Guess I'm just partial to the 2UZ since I own one. It's all personal preference really, the 1GR is a fine engine and you don't have to worry about a timing belt.

I've driven both and the 8 is just smoother from the reason you mentioned... the torque. If you tow, you'll appreciate it. Proven longevity as well. I just want the biggest motor I could get, haha. Given a choice between a N/A V6 or a V8... It'll be the V8 100 time out of a 100 for me. I'm just a sucker for 8 cylinders, the sound, everything. Had I bought a 6, I know I'd be yearning for an 8. But I don't ever catch myself saying "should have bought the V6". It can be a testy subject among 4th gen owners (the whole 6 vs 8 debate). Drive both, evaluate your needs vs what is available to you and make your own decision.

Either way, I'm certain you'll be happy with your purchase.
