Exhaust gaskets showed up today, so I put the muffler and tailpipe on. The Walker brand exhaust for these is great. Opted for the Quietflow muffler they have. Sounds great/factory. Fit was spot on, went on the exhaust hangers perfectly, very pleased. Highly recommend if anyone is in the market for a factory looking/sounding exhaust.

How big is that muffler compared to stock? I'm going to need a new muffler soon since the rocks have taken its toll on the stock one. I'd like to keep it as quiet as possible while gaining as much clearance as possible. I may be asking for the best of both worlds though haha.

It's an exact copy of the factory muffler. Fit and finish is superb. For the muffler, tailpipe and 2 gaskets, it ran 190$.

Kept myself from spending any money on this "mod". This has always bothered me but never got around to doing it until now. Trimmed the small black plastic mud flap attached to a mud flap haha. Looks less like a semi now in my opinion and much cleaner.

Had our long weekend last week and decided to make a small trip a few hours away. Went down to the gorge again. Took everything in me not to turn left and hit some trails but the wife and pups were antsy to get to the campsite. Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway is off the same exit. Stayed the weekend at Koomer Ridge Campsite. The wife isn't ready to completely rough it so she wants a bathroom/outhouse and a shower.

Set up the tent and got everything unpacked. The pups were right at home and loved every minute of being able to explore and be outside constantly.

Cooking some dinner. Had walking tacos which was a great idea from the wife.

Hiked and saw one of the scenic destinations. Hiked about 6 miles.

Second day we woke up and went another hiking route. This one was about 7 miles and was a lot more intense. Couldn't keep up with the pups haha.

Last day we packed up and drove the scenic drive. Made a couple stops to large viewing areas but we decided to stop and see Grays Arch. This hike was rough.

Overall had a phenomenal relaxing weekend. We decided we need to invest in a good sleeping pad. Looked into the self inflating foam pads which we'll most likely end up going with.

Finally got around to doing both front CV’s. After riding around on busted CV’s for so long, when I pulled them, they nearly disintegrated haha.

Went with NAPA New Lifetime. Got an additional 20% off if i bought a .99cent bag and a 3rd item. Ended up being 142$ for 2 axles and some meguiars car soap.

Install was super easy and straight forward. Took me about 2 hours to do.

As you can see here, they were done for a long time ago haha

Your friendly reminder to ALWAYS blue locktite the 4 LBJ bolts upon reinstall and torque to 59 FT LBS

All done!

Finally got around to fixing the transmission pan leak. I was dreading having to do this job and rightfully so.

Months ago I tightened the trans pan bolts to see if it would fix the seeping. Come to find out about 5 of the 19 bolts were spinning.

Fast forward to today. Drained fluids and yanked the pan off.

Cleaned the old FIPG and cleaned the magnets which didn’t have any metal on them haha.

Installed the fresh trans filter and double checked which holes were stripped out and addressed with the tap. Being that the trans housing is aluminum, the tap wasn’t taking which wasn’t surprising. I ended up tapping for slightly bigger bolts. In reality, I should’ve helicoiled all 19 holes, but wasn’t able to find the correct helicoil size in store for some reason. If it leaks again, I’ll remove the pan and install helicoils.

Fresh new bolts installed. All tightened down well.

Overall an easy job turned into a massive pain in the ass, which I saw coming, overtightened bolts/not torqued to spec with ruin the threads on the aluminum trans housing. Thanks previous owner.

I used Mobil 1 ATF. Used it before and it’s done well. I just went with an autozone filter.

Honestly, not really haha. I’d like to get into a MK1 Rabbit and turn it into a show car. It was weird going from a car that sat an inch off the ground to one that’s feet off of the ground haha

Took care of another small task that’s been bugging me since I owned the rig.

Only the top 2 lines on the rear defrost were working. Used a power meter to find out where my breaks were.

Used Permatex Window Defrost repair kit. You can purchase it at any auto parts store. This kit includes the conductive paint, sandpaper, activator towelette, tab adhesive, etc. You can use it to repair the grid lines and broken tabs.

Directions say to put a coat on, let it tack up, and apply another. Takes 24 hours to cure before being able to use defroster.

We’ll see tomorrow if I got all the broken grid lines covered. Hopefully so!

Certainly a cool fix, should be a solid fix. Better than hassling with another used glass and that one possibly not being much better. Will check back on the result tomorrow.

Snagged some WabFab rear quick disconnects, new in box, off of a guy on 3rd gens Facebook page for $80. No brainer in my book.

Going to start buying front end bushings.

Going with:
-Whiteline LCA bushings
-Energy suspension steering rack bushings
-Energy suspension sway bar bushings
-SPC Adjustable UCA

Once I do all that, that pretty much covers everything that could possibly be done on the underside of the car haha.

I wouldn't hold your breath on a V8 or diesel option. Although I'd love to see it too. Most likely get the 3.5L out of the Tacoma though if they decide to change anything.
