This is an invitation to the 4Runners in NOVA to join me on a trail run in Mid-January.

I'm open to other trails so just select "Other" in the poll and post a response with details. I know a few of you guys just did Flagpole a few weeks ago, but if we do flagpole again it would be sweet to build a massive bonfire at the top. It may be too cold, but if its not 30 degrees that would be fun.

Details:
January 16, 2016
11:00 Meet at Shell (1021 W Market St Harrisonburg, VA 22801)
11:15 Head for the trail head
Expect the trail run to take 4-5 hours

We will plan to do the FlagPole Run in reverse to change it up a bit for those who have done it a few times. This means we will enter Union Springs Rd from here: 38°28'13.6"N 79°03'27.2"W and we will exit here: 38°28'55.4"N 79°13'15.3"W

I will plan to explore GWNF on 1/23/16 and if anybody is interested they are more than welcome to join me.

I may be game for the later one.

I have a small Laundry list on the 4runner to do before then. Rear axle seals/rear brakes, Tundra brakes, Hood latch, and mayyyybe rear main seal (not leaking too bad at this point)

I'd love to go, but January is a disastrous month for me with business travel. I've got three big trips to the west coast already on the books so I need to balance my family time when I am at home. I will let you guys know closer to time I suppose. Down for whatever. Neither weekend really looks more convenient for me. LOL
 
Okay - just wanted to get this on the calendar for everybody. I'm good for either date. Heck, I might even go both weekends. It will be too cold to go camping for my lady, but she'll probably go with me one of the weekends and the other I may stay the night whereever we decide to go. I'm really hoping for some snowfall between now and then!

I know quite a few in the GWNF....definitely not all but a good amount of trails and routes. Flagpole and all of the various routes there, 2nd Mountain, Dictum Ridge, etc. There are many, many trails that I've never even explored yet stretching North/South through VA and West into WVa. An updated forest service map is your best friend up in those parts.

Then if you go on over to the Blue Ridge, you can get into Peters Mill / Taskers Gap (easy), Big Levels Trail from Stuarts Draft up to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and then Shoe Creek (cut in half) on the other side of the BRP.

Lots of places to suit all skill / modification levels.

Name the place / time and I'll most likely be there.

A 4Runner SR5 in stock form is an extremely formidable offroad vehicle. When I first started offroading in my 2001 it was completely stock with the exception of slightly larger BFG KOs. I was embarrassing Rubicons (they were running all season tires in muddy conditions). I don't know your wheeling experience level, but people who are new to offroading are always AMAZED at the capability of their 4Runners.

All that to say - you will be fine. You may get a few scratches if you aren't careful, but your 4Runner will be able to handle anything on these trails.

I'll also add that you will not be patronized or demeaned if you are new to offroading. This is an awesome group of guys and we all love offroading and helping everybody have a safe, fun, damage-free trip.

Couldnt have said it any better bear! These guys took me under their wing when we 1st went wheeling in August! Good group of guys and I have made a couple new friends!
 
[MENTION=121404]theBEAR[/MENTION] I've wheeled 3 times in GWNF. I've thoroughly enjoyed all three trips, especially the last one, being a three day, two night trip. I love what my rig has done for me, and I'm ready to see how it performs as I have some new stuff to work with now.
 
If flagpole gets voted I want to go down Union Mills side. Having run up it twice that is fun, but I would like the challenge of going down that side.

The only off road experience I have is with my mountain bike. With that said, I'm a total newb at four wheeling and off roading. I've owned a 3rd Gen, but it was 2WD and I've always wanted a 4WD. I finally pulled the trigger and traded in the 3rd Gen for a used 5th Gen LE and loving it. This is my first 4WD and really want to learn off road basics. If I knew of a legal place to do that here in the VaBch area, I would have done it by now.

You gotta come out with us the E! hearno, chuch, and twitchstyle all come from the beach on these day trips, we have even done camping right outside of PMR
